Boston Sculptors Gallery New England's only gallery focused on contemporary sculpture, in traditional & new media, since 1992

In 1992, a group of 18 sculptor friends and colleagues came together to found Boston Sculptors Gallery. Addressing the scarcity of opportunities to showcase sculpture in New England, the group pooled their resources to advance a mission: that sculpture should be nurtured, celebrated and promoted locally. Boston Sculptors quickly established its reputation as area curators and critics, and the art-going public, took notice. Just three years after its founding, BSG was named "Boston's best gallery" by Boston Magazine, and the following year the Boston Globe hailed it as "the most innovative gallery around". Nick Capasso, Director of the Fitchburg Art Museum and former Curator of the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, described Boston Sculptors as a "landmark" sculptors' cooperative. Boston Sculptors Gallery offers a second, significant distinction, eschewing the competitive model of commercial galleries in favor of a collaborative system of support and advancement. Boston Sculptors Gallery was founded and continues to operate with the belief that sharing resources and championing one another's creative efforts produce the most fertile ground in which artists can succeed. The Gallery continues to thrive and offer compelling, nationally recognized work based on this core belief.

Okay, we've been working on something for awhile now, and it's FINALLY time to spill the beans:

We're proud to share that Boston Sculptors Gallery will participate in this year's Affordable Art Fair! From Thu, Oct 22-Sun Oct 25, in SoWa's Power Station, 500 Harrison Ave, nine of our sculptor members will offer their work for display and sale, shoulder to shoulder with galleries from Boston, New England, the United States and beyond.

We're excited to showcase some of the powerful, inspired work that fills our gallery spaces (like that of Claudia Olds Goldie, pictured here!), and to connect with colleagues, curators and collectors alike over the course of the weekend. Come find us in Booth C6!

More details can be found , and we'll have more to share in the coming days. We can't wait!

We are SUPER excited to celebrate! In addition to our event tonight, 5-8:30pm, celebrating new work by Nancy Selvage, Larry Pollans and Launchpad guest Valeria Viggiano, we've been working on something BIG that we're almost ready to share...keep an eye out for our next few posts for details, and come join the party!

Guest artist Valeria Viggiano arrives in the Launchpad this week with "Grammar of Movement", a spare-but-refreshing mashup of "modular porcelain" works, graphic design and symbolic language. Viggiano's precise, bold compositions proceed from "a restricted vocabulary of forms and a defined set of rules", with a result unlike anything we've seen. Opens this Thu, Oct 1, w/ reception this Fri, Oct 2, 5-8:30pm.

Just in time for the Fall season, Larry Pollans returns to the Gallery with "Threshing", his latest solo outing. Pollans offers complex, polychrome assemblages that provide ample evidence of his give-and-take, additive-and-subtractive approach to creation. Opens this Thu, Oct 1, w/ reception this Fri, Oct 2, 5-8:30pm.

We're excited to welcome Nancy Selvage back this coming week! Selvage's "Feast or famine" offers a blend of new and old forms, all the while ruminating on the irony of harvest bounties only available to a select few, while others are denied those fruits. Selvage juxtaposes cornucopias with barren plateaus, in a rich mix of vessels, tables and sculpture. Opens this Thur, Oct 1, w/ reception this Fri, Oct 2, 5-8:30pm.
