In Ukrainian below

To this day, we have shared stories of the strength and beauty of Ukrainian art.
Life in Ukraine right now means living alongside death every single day. It is a life where relatives and friends defend Ukraine and the entire world on the front lines. Many have perished in this battle. The enemy has already destroyed numerous schools, museums, libraries, hospitals, book printing houses, and publishing warehouses... Many people simply cannot bear it anymore...

These past few days, Ukraine said goodbye to a prominent figure of our culture Daria Alyoshkina. She passed away unexpectedly at the age of 44, leaving behind her husband, three young children, her parents, and her husband's parents...

Daria Alyoshkina was a sculptor and the creator of unique vytynankas (traditional paper cuts), making it her life's mission to introduce this Ukrainian art to the world. We knew of her extraordinary works, though collaboration required special spaces and conditions.

Look at the beauty she created. Cherish life. Fight for the Truth, because Truth gives life, it does not take it away.
Support Ukraine in its battle for freedom!

Thank you, Ms. Daria.

Nataliya Huliayeva-Smahlo Наталя Гуляєва-Смагло is a Ukrainian artist, educator, and an outstanding master of vytynanka - the traditional Ukrainian art of paper cutting. Despite the ongoing war, she chose to remain in Ukraine, continuing her work as a school art teacher.
Born in 1978, Nataliya Huliayeva-Smahlo graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Odesa Ushynsky State Pedagogical University. Throughout her artistic journey, she has combined her passion for creating art with her dedication to teaching, sharing her knowledge and love for Ukrainian culture with her students.
Although she works in various artistic fields, including Petrykivka decorative painting, batik, and oil painting, the central direction of her creative work has become Ukrainian vytynanka. Through this unique art form, she continues to develop and reinterpret traditional Ukrainian motifs. Her artistic legacy includes more than 200 original vytynanka works.
In 2007, Nataliya Huliayeva-Smahlo became the winner of the All-Ukrainian competition “Teacher of the Year.” In 2008, she published the book “Vytynanka”, the first educational publication in Ukraine for teachers dedicated to the history, symbolism, composition, and techniques of creating this unique art form. After decades when vytynanka was diminished and marginalized as an art form during the soviet period, creating and publishing a book devoted to this tradition required deep dedication, commitment to Ukrainian culture, and the courage to restore recognition to this unique artistic heritage.
In 2024, Nataliya Huliayeva-Smahlo became a member of the Vinnytsia Regional Organization of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
The artist has participated in numerous exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad. Her works have been presented in Poland and the United States, as well as at exhibitions and cultural events organized by Ukrainian Cultural Initiative. In July 2026, she participated in a three-artist exhibition in Lviv. Her works are held in numerous private collections in Ukraine, Germany, and the United States.

Nataliya Huliayeva-Smahlo: "Ukrainian art is unique. It is multifaceted, not similar to any other.
It is very difficult for Ukrainian artists now. There is a war and economic turmoil. But we persist in painting, embroidering, sculpting, and carving. I'm glad that my works travel around the world and people from other parts of the planet can see what I do.
Thank you for supporting Ukraine and our people."

Svitlana Gunchenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) Svitlana Gunchenko is a Ukrainian painter based in Kyiv, working in oil on canvas and graphic design. She graduated from the Taras Shevchenko State Art School in Kyiv in 1997 and from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in 2003. In 2006, she completed an internship in the studio of Vasyl Hurin, a renowned Ukrainian artist and professor.
Svitlana began her artistic journey at the age of 11, studying at specialized art schools in Zhytomyr and Kyiv. She was awarded the Mykola Dmytrenko Prize and continued to refine her artistic skills through dedicated study and practice.
Rooted in the traditions of Ukrainian impressionism, Svitlana Gunchenko’s work captures landscapes, fleeting moods of nature, and the quiet emotions of people with warmth and sensitivity. Her lyrical paintings are distinguished by a delicate sense of color, light, and atmosphere, revealing moments of harmony and emotional depth.
Alongside her work as a painter, Svitlana Gunchenko has also contributed her artistic vision to the world of computer games. For many years, she worked as a 2D artist at Frogwares, the Ukrainian studio known for its internationally recognized Sherlock Holmes adventure games. Her artistic skills helped shape the visual atmosphere of these virtual worlds, where her paintings became part of the richly detailed interiors explored by players.
In the spring of 2022, at the beginning of the full-scale war, Svitlana left for Poland with her child, where she continued her artistic work and participated in exhibitions. However, her deep connection to her homeland brought her back, and she continues to live and create in Kyiv.
Svitlana Gunchenko has participated in numerous Ukrainian and international exhibitions. Since 2024, Ukrainian Cultural Initiative has represented her work in the United States through a series of exhibitions and cultural events, including “Affirmation of Life. Art from Today’s Ukraine” at The Loading Dock Gallery in Lowell, Massachusetts (2024), and Babson College, Massachusetts (2025).
Her paintings have been exhibited in Ukraine, Poland, and the United States and are held in private collections, where they continue to share the spirit and beauty of Ukrainian art.

Svitlana Gunchenko: “Dawn. The world is quiet, nature awakens, and peace seems near… Until the warning siren shatters the morning. War has come. Homes are burning, the future is uncertain. God, save Ukraine!
Let us hold on to the beauty that still surrounds us, for it is this beauty that fills our hearts with joy.
We are deeply grateful for your support of Ukraine.”
