"I brought in my 20 year old Martin for a much needed overhaul - new frets, setup, fixing the bridge, putting in a new saddle. As someone who used to build guitars, I'm impressed with the quality of the work. More smooth and comfortable than most stock jobs. I think this is the best this guitar has ever played. I'll definitely be back." - Joe B. (acoustic restoration)

"Just want to say thank you a billion for the work done on my PRS. The guitar plays and feels like new again. I am very pleased with it!!" -Rob P. (fret level & crown, setup)

“Thank you for the work on my guitar. It plays better than ever.”

I like getting that kind of voicemail.

Various repairs from this week including some refret and neck reset work as well as binding repairs. I've finally had time to start a refret on one of my own guitars with Evo Gold frets.

Most people think of this as an aesthetic choice as I first did. Having played on them for several years, I've come to believe that this is the best material for frets. It's right in the middle of the traditional nickel/silver frets and stainless steel frets in terms of hardness.

There is minimal wear on the frets, but they don't tear up strings the way stainless frets do. The frequency of needing fretwork done on these things is quite low. They last a very long time compared to traditional frets and they're also much easier on strings (and tools) than stainless steel frets. And they look awesome.

Rewiring and testing an old lapsteel pickup for a CooderCaster conversion. I was genuinely surprised that it it worked. There was no ground wire for this decades old pickup and only an inch or so of lead for the hot wire, but kludging the hot wire and grounding to the base plate worked. More to come.
