The Copley Society of Art is the oldest non-profit art association in the country. With its gallery in the heart of Newbury Street, it’s also a central fixture in Boston.

There are some exciting happenings at Co|So right now, including new leadership under dynamic Associate Director Nina Mollo and Executive Director Paige Roehrig. Co|So has also launched a new membership level for emerging artists, and new programs geared at professional development.

Each month I organize a meetup geared towards younger and emerging artists in Rhode Island. These are a great way to build creative community. This post has a smattering of pics from the last few gatherings.

I was delighted to be invited to serve as the Awards Judge for South Coast Artists Spring Invitational, which is on view now at Imago Gallery in Warren, RI!

The show features dozens of artworks by makers of a wide range of backgrounds based in the South Coast region. Visit it and support your local artists.

The opening reception and awards is this evening, May 3, from 5-8pm. It was really tough to pick awards in the show. Thank you to South Coast Artists for inviting me to take part.

My latest piece for GoLocalProv: a feature on CVPA UMass Dartmouth Professor Suzanne Schireson.

Read my profile and see Suzy’s upcoming Providence solo show May 3!

For painter and professor Suzanne Schireson, the overlap of motherhood and creativity is central to her vibrant figurative art. A mom to two children, Schireson has spent a great deal of time researching historic artists who were committed both to their studios and to caretaking. A series of recent....

Thank you so much to everyone who came out for my latest Drinks with Artists last night. And thank you to Myrtle and The Awesome Foundation for co-hosting. It was another big success! As usual I did not take enough photos.

Just a few months ago these gatherings were usually me with four or five handpicked friends and it’s so cool to see them grow into something substantial and accessible.

I’m grateful to our local art community and all the collaborators who have made these nights real. Each month is different and fun. Last night, Drinks with Artists lead in to Dr. Claire Annette’s open mic night, and an incredible performance.

These evenings are so special and if you haven’t been to one yet I hope you’ll join me next time. The May spot will be announced soon!

We had such a nice opening this weekend for the Fourth Annual Community Invitational that I organized at the Providence Art Club. Thank you to the 21 artists who are sharing their work in this special exhibition!

One of the Club’s newer traditions, the Community Show started during the pandemic and is an opportunity for me to invite some of the great artists I know from around Rhode Island to exhibit.

In the Club’s founding documents in 1880 the early members stated their wish to mount exhibitions not only of member artists but of “others not members who might be invited” and this is a continuation of that.

I wrote a short reflection about the show on my blog at michaelrosefineart.com (link in bio), and added the link to my Insta story too.

I have a couple other exhibition projects coming up so be sure to fill out my group exhibition interest form to be considered.

This Thursday is Drinks with Artists!

Head to Myrtle in East Providence from 5:30-8:00pm for a fun and casual gathering of art people. Here are a few photos from the last couple meet ups.

Each month I’m organizing a low key get together geared towards younger and emerging artists. These aren’t networking events, just opportunities to build creative community and get to know one another.

If you have questions, DM me. It would be great to have you there Thursday!!

Last week, The Womxn Project hosted a very successful Advocacy is Love fundraiser raffling off donated works by local artists.

I was one of the co-curators who rallied art for this event, but all the hard work was done by staff and volunteers who set up hundreds of small art pieces for donors to choose from and ran this event really well.

It was a great evening of connection, community, and philanthropy. And I took home pieces by a couple great artists. Congrats to The Womxn Project on a great job!!

It’s time to mark your calendars for my next Drinks with Artists! Join me Thursday, April 3 from 5:30-8:00pm at Myrtle in East Providence for a casual gathering of creative people.

These monthly events are free and have no agenda besides building community among artists. Our last meet up and Kimi’s was so much fun and I look forward to seeing you at Myrtle April 3.

Thank you to Myrtle for hosting and to The Awesome Foundation for providing in-kind promotional support for this event. Folks from The Awesome Foundation, which gives out $1,000 a month in funding, will also be in attendance.

Please share this post to invite your friends. Cheers! 🥂

Congratulations to all the artists featured in the 17th Annual Pawtucket Foundation Show at the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative. Juried by Spocka Summa and Cas Inez of Public Shop and Gallery, this show includes a wealth of work by local artists.

I’m including some of the details and artworks I liked most from the exhibition. There are so many pieces that exemplify the skill and vision of artists based in and around Rhode Island.

You should visit the gallery, located at 560 Mineral Spring Ave in Pawtucket, and pick your own favorites through April 27. The show is open Saturdays 1 - 4pm and Sundays 10am - 4pm.
