“Go out, enjoy the splendors of the earth while you can. Do not sacrifice your time for money. Do not trade magic for logic. It is possible to make something serious and not take oneself seriously. Allow enthusiasm to swell in your heart until you can no longer stand it—until it’s too painful not to act—and then bring something strange and wonderful into the world. Illuminate some small and tender detail of this overwhelming place for someone else so they might see it too. Make the patterns complicated—that’s how they value the art, the more the lines crisscross and overlap. “

Love Volcano
oil on linen, 30 x 40 inches
“As tides rise and fall, the ocean leaves all sorts of shells, glass, plastic, and driftwood on the beach. This debris comes in with the waves and gets left, half-buried in sand or caught in tidepools. Almost all of these are fragments of what they once were, now separated and smoothed by the force that brought them in. Beachcombing—a method of tracking and treasure hunting for things that once were whole but have since undergone a forceful change—requires attuning one’s eyes to the smallest shifts in color, sheen, and texture on the beach in order to notice and identify these fragments.

The paintings I’ve made over the last several years act as visual archives of a similar process. Fragments of shells, hearts, flowers, waves, volcanoes, and infinities all go through a metaphorical tide shift, losing and gaining parts of themselves as they break against each other and rearrange. I see the images that come together as portraits of loss; in each I am trying to recognize something that is no longer as it was.“

“Throughout my art career, I have focused on open conversations about social issues. My work explores themes of identity, societal challenges, and the impact our actions have on people and the environment. These ideas are shaped by both my personal experiences and observations, giving my art a sense of shared meaning.

I am interested in contrasting tension with playfulness; I tell stories through elements from mythology and the beauty of nature, drawing attention to the deeper meanings of the world around us. Through exaggeration and irony, I aim to highlight the fragility of human life and our connection to nature, encouraging reflection on the balance between beauty and struggle.

My approach is multidisciplinary, drawing inspiration from everyday objects, folk art traditions, and contemporary art practices.“

Northstar Pony
acrylic on canvas, 48 x 36 inches
“My work explores the mythology of the American West through a personal and feminine lens. Grounded in drawing and expressed through painting and ceramics, I reimagine archetypes of women, animals, and landscape that have historically defined Western iconography. Horses, wildflowers, devotional figures, and domestic artifacts recur—not as decorative elements, but as central, living protagonists in a shifting folklore.

The paintings emphasize flattened space, ornamental detail, and intuitive color. The surfaces often evoke illuminated manuscripts or devotional panels, balancing intricate linework with expressive gestures and symbolic arrangements. While I reference art historical periods like the High Renaissance and Rococo, these influences are filtered through personal narrative and emotional memory, shaped by my matriarchal upbringing and my current existence in Montana.

Through this work, I examine how beauty, labor, and power entwine and what it means to exist within a mythologized landscape while also rewriting its script. Each piece acts as a quiet intervention: tender, surreal, and richly encoded, inviting viewers to reflect on the stories we preserve, inherit, and re-author through feminine presence and hand.“

“My work expresses solidarity with immigrants and refugees by forging emotional connections between viewer and subject. I travel to camps and border communities, integrating news images with my own drawings and paintings to underscore the realities of enforcement. I aim to depict moments that are both familiar and unsettling. Whether showing a makeshift soccer field, a man washing with a water bottle, or life-worn eyes looking ahead, I invite viewers to imagine themselves in these scenes and feel empathy beyond the headlines.

I favor an open-ended approach grounded in formal exploration and expressive realism. I weave highly rendered passages with rough, energetic marks, using color strategically to highlight areas of focus. The interplay of finished and unfinished elements keeps the composition open and dynamic, inviting the viewer to complete the image in their own mind.

I am deeply inspired by James Baldwin’s fearless prose and moral clarity, which showed me that creative expression can be a powerful catalyst for social awareness. This belief underpins my commitment to using art as a tool for engagement and transformation.“
