THE PLOT: LAND, LEGACY AND THE STRUGGLE TO BELONG

This is a celebration of devotion, observation and reclamation. With work by Althea Bennett and Amber Dominga

Two Bostonians who care deeply about this city; born and raised by the African diaspora and Latino communities of Roxbury and Mission Hill - our perspectives of this city were shaped through poverty, racial discrimination, access and opportunity. We see, feel and understand how the city is changing around us.

Public servants who have given our art to our community; academia has afforded us a foot into doorways we never imagined for ourselves - from teaching to art administration for non-profit institutions, we focus on creating opportunities for artists and the youth.

The plot: Land, legacy, and the struggle to belong honors home, community, and the people who truly sustain it.

Our work pays homage to the locals.

Focusing on the 1800s as a major piano factory, and the late 1900s, as a prominent artist colony. Featuring art & music from factory residents.

Over 40 artists are highlighting selections from their studios in a neighborhood group show in our gallery! Join us for “Bigfoot Broke My Sewing Machine.” This exhibition features the artwork of Beckett Brueggemann, Grendelin Drag Kiara A Reagan maya rocky

Myths and mythos are the ways in which we create stories to understand our histories. By creating and excavating our own myths and archetypes, we are able to address and investigate the histories which have created the world we live in now. We are able to understand the many facets which create “truth” through narrative. Through textiles, clay, and performance, Beckett Brueggemann, Kiara Reagan, Maya Greenfield, and Rocky Prull explore the many ways our histories influence where we are now, who we have become, and where we are going in an ever shifting country. Each artist has a relationship with quilting in their work: bringing together stories, piecing fabric, and engaging with textile traditions. We encourage visitors to add stitches and stories to our community quilt.
