Twenty. Five. Years. Ago.
We (who are old enough) remember exactly where we were when the Towers fell.
We remember the smoking gashes in the buildings, our eyes burrowing into them like doubting Thomas’ fingers probing Christ’s wound, unbelieving.
We remember the pancaking steel and cement and the confetti of once important documents fluttering in the rising plume of dust. An endless loop in our collective psyche.
And we remember strangers linked forever to us by the shared experience, faces turned upward in horror and disbelief, uncomprehending and refusing to accept what was unfolding right before our eyes.
---------------
In the aftermath, I think we all did some reassessment. Me, I turned away from a life in pursuit of security, picked up my discarded brushes and dreams, and set off down the road not taken.
Summer 2002 found me in my little storefront studio and gallery in Provincetown where on Sept. 11th. I first hung this painting in my gallery window.
Up it went in that window every September after, and I still unroll and hang it wherever I am on the anniversary.

And remember.
