COLLAB ALERT: HCE Players and Theater Uncorked are teaming up to give you not one, but TWO incredible Martin McDonagh plays this Fall/Winter! Catch their production of "The Beauty Queen of Leenane" in November at the Boston Center for the Arts, and finish out your appreciation of McDonagh's best plays with our production of "The Pillowman" in December at The Comedy Studio. Both of our plays explore McDonagh's dark sense of humor and imperfect lead characters. Each production will make you think about life in a different way, so treat yourself to BOTH this season! Martin McDonagh's "The Pillowman": Murder. Mayhem. Mostly the truth. In a dystopian police state, a children’s author faces interrogation about a series of child murders in the region, resembling his own fairy tale stories. Told through both the police cell and projections, the horrific reveal of the crime comes to light… whether they accept it or not. Directed by Jill Tokac.

The Beauty Queen of Leenane is a brilliant black comedy by award winning Irish playwright Martin McDonagh about the intensely toxic, codependent relationship between a lonely spinster, Maureen Folan, and her manipulative, aging mother, Mag, in their isolated cottage in rural Ireland during the 1990s. This riveting Drama Desk and Tony Award winning piece is loaded with savage irony and surreal humor, the play escalates into a violent, suspenseful thriller when Maureen's only chance at romance, is sabotaged by Mag, leading to a gruesome conclusion as Maureen fights for freedom from her suffocating life. Known for its rich, violent language and shifting power dynamics, it's a story of dreams, discontent, and bitter familial warfare and will not only leave audiences laughing, but also gasping in horror at the sinister undercurrent that Martin McDonagh has so brilliantly weaved into his writing.

Join Boston's Irish Theatre in its annual celebration of Bloomsday (June 16th!) in Martin Hall at the Boston Center for the Arts. HCE's Bloomsday production celebrates the literary works of James Joyce, including his masterpiece “Ulysses”.

We are also partnering once again with the Charitable Irish Society to present our Bloomsday show at the Irish Social Club on June 12th! Details for both shows are below- choose which works best for you and secure your tickets using the QR codes or by heading to our website hce-players.org!

It’s been a week since we opened Conor McPherson’s “The Weir”, and we’re still reeling from the fantastic time we had producing our first ever fully-staged show. From purchasing tickets to amplifying us on social media, your support means the world! We cannot wait to participate in the Boston Theater Marathon in May, and conclude our season with “Bloomsday” in June (casting announcements coming out soon). Stay tuned for the announcement of our 2026-2027 Season, exploring Irish works that bring us from the darkness into the light.

Special thanks to the amazing cast, production team, HCE Staff & Board, and The Foundry for making this production possible. Endless gratitude to The Footlight Club, Theater III, and Black Dog Theatre for supporting our production through set and prop rentals.
