I returned to the Ali Gray Gallery for a special Gallery Stroll, “Birds of a Feather,” benefiting The Equality Fund at the Boston Foundation. This wonderful organization works tirelessly to advance equality for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families. I was also introduced to their representative, the very charming Scott Knox, and I look forward to attending more of their events in Boston and Provincetown.

The gallery also featured another ArtProvincetown favorite, Maureen McCarron. I never grow tired of seeing her work, and I’m especially excited about her new collages!

I was also drawn to the ceramic Spirit Birds created by Julia Hechtman. And if you’re a “bird nerd” like me, be sure to check out the gorgeous paintings by Marcia Crumley, Kathy Cotter, Kate McConnell and Jill Madden.

“Birds of a Feather” is on exhibit through August 13, so be sure to stop by!

I finally made it to the Philip Celeste Gallery, where so many of my favorite artists, including Pete Hocking and Caroline Carney, exhibit their beautiful work.

I loved seeing Pete’s addition of pastels and brighter colors to his already stunning paintings. Caroline and I had a chance to catch up, and I was so happy to see her gorgeous new work in person. I’ve admired her process along the way, so it was especially rewarding to see the finished pieces!

I was also introduced to the impressive work of Dylan Hurwitz and Michael Guy. Everything in the gallery felt cohesive and flowed beautifully, much like the bay just outside the window.

I also had the pleasure of meeting Philip Celeste, the talented artist and owner of the gallery. He was gracious, welcoming and available to answer any questions, which made the visit even more enjoyable.

I’ll definitely be back, and I encourage everyone to stop in and experience the gallery for themselves!

Friends and I did the Friday night gallery stroll after the PAAM Members’ Show. So many great openings!

We had to stop at Four Eleven Gallery to see Elspeth Slater’s opening. I had a chance to talk with her about her beautiful, layered and earthy paintings, inspired by her time in Mexico and the Dune Shacks.

I told her I could really feel what she saw out there in the sea grass, the dunes and the light. She said, “Glad you can see that connection! And the texture is fun to make. So many variations with what I saw out there.”

I love hearing an artist talk about what inspires their work and then being able to see and feel that connection in the paintings.

This past Friday, I attended the opening reception for the PAAM Members’ 12x12 Exhibition. It was great to see such a packed house, especially given the heat outside!

It was so nice to see familiar faces and the work of artists I know on the walls, along with some wonderful newcomers. If you haven’t had a chance to see the show in person, I highly recommend it!

You can also view all of the entries and bid online through the link in the Provincetown Art Association and Museum bio or by visiting PAAM.org. The exhibition and bidding run through September 13, and best of all, it’s a fundraiser!

I always stop into Captain’s Daughters because I love the vibe, the clothes, and the art. I recently visited to see Madeline Merenda’s show, My Favorite Things. I was surprised when I didn’t see my favorite shop dog, Lucy Dee, waiting for me at the top of the stairs. Sadly, she recently crossed the rainbow bridge. Madeline and I spoke about her beloved Lucy and how she was inspired to donate 50% of the sales from her Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds paintings to help shelter dogs in need of food and medical care while they wait for their forever homes.

Madeline’s work brings an immediate sense of nostalgia and joy. The pieces are simple, yet they say so much. My friend’s favorite was the jar of pickles, while I was drawn to the oyster with its luminous pearl. The Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds paintings felt ethereal and mystical, a beautiful tribute to a beloved companion who is surely looking down on her favorite people.

We also met a very special dog, Sammie, whom Madeline had just adopted. This Great Pyrenees and Golden Retriever mix was sweet, gentle, and happy to greet everyone who came into the shop. She has some big paws to fill, but we think she’s doing an amazing job so far.

I was also delighted to spy a wall of miniatures by another ArtProvincetown favorite, Pete Hocking. They’re worth stopping in to see all on their own.

My friend, artist Stephen Wells, took me to Gallery 193 on Friday night. He knew several of the artists who were opening exhibitions that evening, making the visit feel especially welcoming. Perched high above the hustle and bustle of Commercial Street, the gallery had the feel of a crow’s nest, offering a peaceful retreat from the crowds below.
I made a point of taking my time with each piece. Although the works complemented one another beautifully, each artist’s distinct voice remained unmistakable. Better yet, all of the artists were on hand to answer questions and share insights about their work. Jeannette de Beauvoir, who hosts the weekly radio program Arts Week on WOMR (Outermost Community Radio), was also there supporting her artist friends, adding to the warm, community atmosphere.
The exhibition featured Catherine Skowron, Brenda Silva, Ed Walsh, Syd Hale, and Rob Langley, whom I had just met earlier that day at Stephen Wells’s artist shack on the pier.

On Friday night, I spent the evening gallery hopping. We sadly missed a few openings, but I’ll be back in August to catch the rest.

One of the highlights of the night was Treadwell Gallery, where we saw Stephen Davan’s stunning exhibition, Night Magic. If you know Provincetown, you’ll instantly recognize many of the places and moments he captures. His paintings beautifully evoke the town after dark, from the glow of neon signs and headlights to crowded dance floors and quiet walks home.

Stephen describes Night Magic as “the collected memory of those nights,” and that perfectly captures the spirit of the exhibition. The paintings are cinematic, intimate, and full of atmosphere, inviting viewers into a Provincetown that exists between dusk and dawn.

We had a chance to chat with Stephen about Provincetown and our shared connection to New York City. With a background in scenic design for Broadway, film, and television, it’s no surprise that each painting feels thoughtfully composed, with dramatic lighting and a strong sense of place.

What I appreciated most was that Stephen doesn’t simply paint Provincetown. He captures how it feels. His work celebrates the town’s vibrant q***r nightlife while also finding beauty in its quieter, more reflective moments. Every painting tells a story, and you’ll probably recognize a few of them from your own late night walks through town.

Night Magic is on view now at Treadwell Gallery and is well worth a visit.

I finally had the opportunity to visit the new Ali Gray Gallery. I was a fan of the previous owner, Stewart Clifford, and had read that he was instrumental in choosing the new owners because he wanted to preserve the gallery’s spirit. I think they have done just that.
The gallery features several artists from Clifford’s era, including Christopher Roddick, Ross Ozer, Nick Peterson-Davis, and Mark Schianca, alongside Kathy Cotter, Julia Hechtman, Beth Faherty, Julie Gray, and others. I was especially happy to recognize Maureen McCarron’s gorgeous bird paintings and Kathy Cotter’s charming work. Both artists have been featured on ArtProvincetown and exhibited at both ArtProvincetown Festivals. It was wonderful to hear that several of Maureen’s large paintings had already found new homes.
I was also eager to see Julie Gray’s white line paintings, a style made famous in Provincetown in the early 1900s by a group of women artists that included Blanche Lazzell. Julie’s striking color palette and timeless approach make her work feel at home in any setting.
I asked Ali Gray how she was feeling halfway through her first season. When I described the gallery as thriving, she had an interesting response. She said she doesn’t measure its success by sales or revenue, although business has been strong. Instead, she measures it by the sense of community she has created for the artists, visitors, and Provincetown as a whole.
By that standard, I think she’s accomplished something truly special. I look forward to visiting again soon.

I had the pleasure of attending Sian Robertson’s opening reception at Studio Lacombe last night. I’ve been a fan of her work ever since I featured her on ArtProvincetown.

It was wonderful to see so many admirers in attendance. A couple shared that they own one of Sian’s Paris inspired pieces, which made for a lovely conversation about her work.

I especially appreciated the thoughtful placement of the artwork. The variety of shapes and compositions encourages viewers to slow down, look closely, and discover new points of interest within each piece.

Sian’s beautiful exhibition will be on view through July 20th
