Keep it Playland

Keep it Playland A Proposal to Reinvent Playland for the 21st Century Until recently it was the only government owned and operated amusement park in the United States.

Playland is a historic family amusement park and entertainment complex in Rye, New York, that first opened in 1928 and is owned and operated by Westchester County. Having experienced declining attendance and a series of revenue losses, Westchester County recently issued a Request for Proposals. Entitled “Reinventing Playland for the 21st Century,” the RFP seeks to end the taxpayer burden and invit

es respondents to propose a number of uses for the property. This website presents Central Amusement International (CAI)’s proposal to Westchester County to preserve, manage and improve Playland Park. Our concept and commitment is to KEEP IT PLAYLAND. Our Proposal will continue Playland as a Family Amusement Park, preserving its historical rides and structures, introducing new state of the art rides and returning to free admissions and family-friendly pricing.

Today's Journal News features an editorial about the Westchester Children's Museum planned for Playland. Our proposal strongly endorses the Children's Museum (see pages 52 and 53). We look forward to a close working relationship with the museum to provide the finest in Edutainment for our guests.

Finally some good news: Westchester is getting a new amenity that will engage children from throughout the region, at once enriching their minds, sense of play, creativity and wonder. They might even learn lessons in persistence and persuasion.

The historic Playland Park in Rye, New York has operated as a family amusement park since it opened in 1928, providing millions of children and adults alike with countless memories. I strongly believe Westchester County should Keep it Playland so future generations can enjoy this incredible place.
