It was a Soup Day on the mountain. First, a Tortellini and Sausage recipe, and then a new Sweet Potato Soup we changed to add ingredients from Bourbon Barrel Foods. They will join the Pumpkin, Sausage, and Sage Soup in the freezer waiting to be served during rehearsals and in the Green Room for Antlers & Acorns, The Boone Songwriters Festival.

Walker, our pond expert, installed a new pump, cleaned out the pennywort, discovered, and destroyed a yellow jacket nest that saved his mom from a lot of grief. Now we have two waterfalls, and many dead yellow jackets.
We restrung lights over the new outdoor dining area we’ll use when musicians and songwriters come to the mountain, making it a little more accessible to our guests.
With Olivia’s help we moved a dresser to Sharon’s, and a new familiar one in the bunk room. It served in the primary bedroom in the Claremont farmhouse, held Walker’s t-shirt collection (well, most of them) in his first apartment and first house, and is now back for its new life as Debbie’s dresser on the mountain.
Things are shaping up for all the hosting we do during the festival. It was a good day.

The Welsh legend tells us that Woodland Fairies ride Corgis into battle. That’s why Corgis have a saddle. In honor of our own fearless corgi, Bunny, we’ve created a Fairy Garden Home with help from Magic 4 Forty Four Houses, that become wildflowers.
There’s a walkway to the secret door made of concrete and rocks, a patio, and gifted from a kindred spirit named Beth Ann, who worked on the AquaTech team that fixed our water issues, magic fairy lights.
Here’s why they’re magic.
We have our own theory to add to the Welsh legend. We believe, and share the theory with all children, that our Eastern Chipmunks are really Woodland Fairies. Once underground, or unseen by humans, they take their Fairy Form. But in sunlight, or when people are watching, they are Chipmunks. We know this because Bunny doesn’t bark at chipmunks. She seems to know them. The Fairies can’t be seen under the magic lights, so they can enjoy the patio, and the 4FortyFour flowers that will protect them.
Antlers & Acorns Lodge isn’t a 4FortyHouse just yet, but our Woodland Fairs/Eastern Chipmunks get to live in one. Songwriters aren’t the only magic that happens on this mountain.

Do you know how Beans in a Jar translates to Snow on the Mountain? Legend says that for every fog in August there will be a snow the next winter. To keep track we put one bean in a jar for each foggy morning this month. For every snow in which “a rabbit could make tracks”, you take one out. Everyone says it’s remarkably accurate.
We use coffee beans. They smell so good. And this morning we put our first bean in the jar.

Antlers & Acorns Lodge is now officially partnered with Hardy Farm, though we’ve been unofficially partnered for ten years. Sharon Hardy can grow, cook, sew, and nurture anything. Cakes and pie wait on her kitchen counters just in case a guest stops in, and guests are always stopping in. Her shelves are lined each year with hundreds of Mason jars filled with green beans, jams, jellies, apple butter, and peaches. Her pastures have been home to horses, cattle, even Texas Longhorns. Her gardens are lush and full, and we are proud to have her join the Team as our Green Room Coordinator for Antlers & Acorns, The Boone Songwriters Festival. Songwriters will be going home a few pounds heavier.
Her great grandfather once lived in the house that is now our lodge. Sharon has been a part of Antlers & Acorns since the beginning. Now it’s official, and we’re the lucky ones.
