Happy Dolly Day 🩷

During the September 23 Boone Town Council meeting, the Town Council proclaimed Friday, September 25, 2026, as Dolly Parton Day in the Town of Boone! And what better day than 9/25 to celebrate one of Appalachia’s most beloved icons 🦋

From her humble beginnings in the mountains to becoming one of the most celebrated artists in American music, Dolly never forgot where she came from. Her legacy extends far beyond music. From the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a program that mails one free, high-quality book every month to children from B-5 at no cost to their families, to the My People Fund, Dolly spent her life giving back and showing the power of kindness, compassion, advocacy, and service.

That generosity has touched our mountain communities, too. Following Hurricane Helene, Dolly donated $1 million, matched by $1 million from the Dollywood Foundation, and later contributed another $1 million to support communities across Western North Carolina and East Tennessee. The relief effort went on to raise more than $7 million for people impacted by the storm 💙

So, on 9/25, a nod to her iconic song and film 9 to 5, we’re asking our community members to do “One Good Deed for Dolly.”

🦋 Show kindness to a stranger
🦋 Help a neighbor
🦋 Donate to a nonprofit
🦋 Make someone laugh
🦋 And if you see someone without a smile, give ’em yours

If everyone does just one good thing for someone else, imagine the difference one day can make. Happy Dolly Parton Day, y'all!
