Now that I have officially retired from working weddings as a DJ/Entertainer, I feel the freedom to say this.

In my many years as a wedding DJ and over the course of countless hundreds of weddings, one venue and one venue operator family rose to the top. And it wasn’t even close!

Epic Event Center in Marion was truly a “one of a kind” venue. It was beautiful and spacious, was incredible from an acoustic standpoint, had two awesome outdoors on-site wedding areas, and was operated by a “cream of the crop” ownership family.

Jerry and Karen Rasmussen Sunderman and Jami and Scott Rosekrans ran in incredible operation. The place was always “squaky clean,” the family was friendly and welcoming, and brides and grooms, their guests, and vendors were treated like family.

I count it as an incredible privilege to have been able to meet and work with Jerry (RIP, my friend) and Karen, and Jami and Scott, and especially to be able to call them friends.

Thank you for consistently recommending me to your clients. I truly miss seeing all of you!

Yesterday, I was pleased to receive this very kind “thank you” card in the mail from Austin and Brandi, whom I worked with last fall at Meskwaki Casino and Resort in Tama. Thanks for the heartfelt comments and congratulations to both of you.

My last year as a Wedding DJ proved to be one of my best years!

I came across this photograph this evening and I have to admit, it brought a little tear to my eye. These two were my favorite catering vendors of all time, Bryan and Stacy Rubner, the owners of Iowa Barbecue Company of Mechanicsville.

I worked countless weddings with them at Epic Event Center in Marion. The last time I worked Epic, a few months ago, Bryan and Stacy stopped by my table after dinner, brought me a bottle of my favorite Iowa Barbecue Company barbecue sauce, their delicious “Sweet and Spicy,” and snapped this picture.

Karen Sunderman and her late husband Jerry (gosh, I miss that guy, his personality, his smile, and his humor), who owned Epic Event Center until earlier this year, always called Iowa Barbecue Company and my business, First Class Entertainment Service their “A Team.”

There are a lot of things I will miss about the business and the Sundermans (and, of course, their daughter and son-in-law, Jami and Scott Rosenkrans) and the Rubners are at the top of the list. FAMILY!

Okay, stop choking up, Tom.

Even after retiring from the wedding DJ business, it is just so incredible to receive nice “thank you” notes in the mail from Bride’s and Groom’s whom I have worked with. This note came yesterday from Emily and Jeremy, whom I worked with last month at Riviera Rose Event Center in Janesville.

Thanks, Jeremy and Emily. It was a pleasure working with you. Best wishes for many “happily ever afters.”

The end has come! After many years and too many weddings to count, tonight I am working my final wedding as a DJ. And I did it up right! I am in Apple River, Illinois at Oak Hill Farm, celebrating with Olivia and Mitch and their families and friends.

Congratulations and best wishes, Mitch and Olivia. Let’s make this one a wedding reception for the ages!

Tonight I am working my final wedding at my “home away from home,” Epic Event center in Marion. Over the past half dozen years or so, I have been at Epic between 15 and 20 times a year.

Tonight we are celebrating with Miranda and Will and their family and friends. The sun came out briefly this afternoon so we were able to enjoy a beautiful outdoors wedding and we will get the reception underway in about 45 minutes with a fun-filled grand entrance.

As this, my final year as a wedding DJ begins to wind down, tonight I am at Riviera-Roose Community Building in Janesville celebrating with Emily and Jeremy and their families and friends.

We had a warm, yet beautiful, outdoor ceremony earlier this afternoon and shortly we will be introducing the wedding party during the Grand Entrance.
