Tomorrow is sale day at V8 Ranch.

20 January–February born Brahman heifers. Red and gray. Prices from $10,000 to $20,000. And the opportunity to choose your next Miss V8 in person.

There’s plenty worth studying in this group: daughters of Sloan, Pathfinder, Municipal, and The Machine, including three Sloan daughters out of our National Champion female, Miss V8 203/9 “Dreamgirl.”

But a list can only tell you so much.

We like to sell cattle the way we like to buy them: private treaty, in person, at a set price. No bidding. No shenanigans.

Our customers have embraced this return to the old days. Every group of heifers we’ve offered this way has sold out, and the last group went especially fast.

On October 10, we’ll bring about 30 brand-new heifers into the sale pens. They’re January- and February-born, red and gray, with pedigrees we’re excited to show you from the legendary cow families that have carried our operation for over 80 years.

SOLD OUT — once again!

Every V8 heifer from our most recent Private Treaty offering has found a new home.

We are incredibly thankful to everyone who purchased, visited, made a virtual appointment, asked questions, shared our posts, or simply followed along. We never take your interest in V8 genetics for granted.

And a sold-out sign means one thing around here: it’s time to start looking toward the next group.

Our next Private Treaty Sale Day is October 10, when a brand-new group of January and February-born Miss V8 heifers will enter the sale pens.

READY TO WORK!

A new group of our 15 to 19-month-old V8 bulls has passed their breeding soundness examinations and is ready to go to work.

Each bull is parent verified by DNA and backed by complete performance data, an individual scrotal circumference, and, depending on age, ultrasound data.

These young bulls represent proven V8 cow families and sire lines, with 85 years of Brahman history standing behind them. They are guaranteed to work and we stand behind them.

When V8 decided to make these red matings, each mating had a reason. These two full sisters might be the best example of the r***e approach.

Their dam is Miss V8 844/7, an International Champion and daughter of +Mr. V8 380/6 “The Machine” — the kind of proven, heavily pigmented V8 female we believed could bring the cow power, muscle and substance we wanted on this side of the pedigree.

Then we matched her with +SRS Mr. Troubador 933 — a National and International Champion and one of the most successful and influential red sires in the world.

One cow. One bull. One reason.

And here are the results.

Two full sisters. Two International Champion parents. Two entirely new combinations of genetics from breeding programs with decades behind them. And two red V8 females we think cattle builders ought to come stand in front of.

Starting Private Treaty Sales Day off right!

Five of our 16 Miss V8 heifers have already sold, and this one had the honor of being first.

Miss V8 260/9 is a very gentle daughter of +Mr. V8 891/8 “Pathfinder” and a full sister to our Cattlemen’s Congress and Kickoff Classic Champion Female, Miss V8 999/9.

And here’s the part we think is worth mentioning: she was selected from our $5,000 pen.

We believe quality should run all the way through an offering — not just at the top end. 260/9 is a pretty good example of that.

Our red heifers at the V8 show barn have created quite a buzz — through our email list, ranch visitors and good old-fashioned word of mouth.

And as Private Treaty Sales get underway, we’re excited to announce a new partnership from this group: Miss Red V8 235/0 “Marsha,” now owned with our longtime friends at Walters' Livestock Enterprises.

Under the private treaty model we’ve come to love, she sold the old-fashioned way: standing in the show barn, a set price, a conversation and a handshake.

There’s some history behind that handshake. V8 and Walters Livestock have partnered on Miss V8 472/9 “Magic” and Mr. V8 451/9 “HullaBULLoo” — both Reserve National Champions. Needless to say, we’ve had a lot of fun together.

Marsha is sired by 2006 Reserve National Champion +SRS Mr. Pasco 812. Her dam is Miss V8 51/9, a 3/4 sister to +Mr. V8 146/8 “Sloan,” combining +Mr. V8 458/7 “Noble” and National Champion +Miss V8 293/8. It’s a pedigree combination never before made — proven Swaner red genetics meeting one of our most proven V8 cow families.

Named for Swaner Brahmans matriarch Marsha Swaner, this one carries a name with history behind it — and we believe she has the kind of future worthy of it.

Pretty matters around here.

Trust us, these heifers are pretty.

But pretty alone has never been enough at V8 Ranch.

V8 was an early adopter of performance data in Brahman cattle. We have decades of Trait Leaders behind our program, and our herd has cattle that consistently rank in the top 25% of the breed for Weaning Weight and Yearling Weight.

We call the goal "USEFUL BEAUTY."

That's why you'll find EPDs right alongside pedigrees and prices on our sales list. They show you there's more beneath the surface.

And you can see it in the 16 heifers available Saturday:

9 of 16 rank in the top 25% for Weaning Weight.
9 of 16 rank in the top 25% for Yearling Weight.
5 rank in the top 10% or better.

But we're never satisfied with standing still.

Over the last five years, we've lowered birthweights while maintaining the growth that has long been a hallmark of V8 cattle. We've also improved our Milk EPDs through intentional selection.

We're always looking for the next place we can improve — and our customers get the benefit of that work.

Because the goal is simple:

Better Brahman cattle.

Better phenotype. Better numbers.
