When V8 decided to make these red matings, each mating had a reason. These two full sisters might be the best example of the rifle approach.

Their dam is Miss V8 844/7, an International Champion and daughter of +Mr. V8 380/6 “The Machine” — the kind of proven, heavily pigmented V8 female we believed could bring the cow power, muscle and substance we wanted on this side of the pedigree.

Then we matched her with +SRS Mr. Troubador 933 — a National and International Champion and one of the most successful and influential red sires in the world.

One cow. One bull. One reason.

And here are the results.

Starting Private Treaty Sales Day off right!

Five of our 16 Miss V8 heifers have already sold, and this one had the honor of being first.

Miss V8 260/9 is a very gentle daughter of +Mr. V8 891/8 “Pathfinder” and a full sister to our Cattlemen’s Congress and Kickoff Classic Champion Female, Miss V8 999/9.

And here’s the part we think is worth mentioning: she was selected from our $5,000 pen.

We believe quality should run all the way through an offering — not just at the top end. 260/9 is a pretty good example of that.

Our red heifers at the V8 show barn have created quite a buzz — through our email list, ranch visitors and good old-fashioned word of mouth.

And as Private Treaty Sales get underway, we’re excited to announce a new partnership from this group: Miss Red V8 235/0 “Marsha,” now owned with our longtime friends at Walters' Livestock Enterprises.

Under the private treaty model we’ve come to love, she sold the old-fashioned way: standing in the show barn, a set price, a conversation and a handshake.

There’s some history behind that handshake. V8 and Walters Livestock have partnered on Miss V8 472/9 “Magic” and Mr. V8 451/9 “HullaBULLoo” — both Reserve National Champions. Needless to say, we’ve had a lot of fun together.

Marsha is sired by 2006 Reserve National Champion +SRS Mr. Pasco 812. Her dam is Miss V8 51/9, a 3/4 sister to +Mr. V8 146/8 “Sloan,” combining +Mr. V8 458/7 “Noble” and National Champion +Miss V8 293/8. It’s a pedigree combination never before made — proven Swaner red genetics meeting one of our most proven V8 cow families.

Named for Swaner Brahmans matriarch Marsha Swaner, this one carries a name with history behind it — and we believe she has the kind of future worthy of it.

Pretty matters around here.

Trust us, these heifers are pretty.

But pretty alone has never been enough at V8 Ranch.

V8 was an early adopter of performance data in Brahman cattle. We have decades of Trait Leaders behind our program, and our herd has cattle that consistently rank in the top 25% of the breed for Weaning Weight and Yearling Weight.

We call the goal "USEFUL BEAUTY."

That's why you'll find EPDs right alongside pedigrees and prices on our sales list. They show you there's more beneath the surface.

And you can see it in the 16 heifers available Saturday:

9 of 16 rank in the top 25% for Weaning Weight.
9 of 16 rank in the top 25% for Yearling Weight.
5 rank in the top 10% or better.

But we're never satisfied with standing still.

Over the last five years, we've lowered birthweights while maintaining the growth that has long been a hallmark of V8 cattle. We've also improved our Milk EPDs through intentional selection.

We're always looking for the next place we can improve — and our customers get the benefit of that work.

Because the goal is simple:

Better Brahman cattle.

For years, our number one request has remained the same:

“Do you have any 380 daughters for sale?”

The answer usually hasn't been simple. +Mr. V8 380/6 “The Machine” became so influential at V8 that much of our cow herd traces directly to him. For a long time, that made going back to 380 difficult.

But time has a way of bringing a great breeding program full circle.

As daughters of Sloan, Municipal, Pathfinder and other generations have moved into our cow herd, we've gained enough distance in those pedigrees to reach back for 380 again.

And tomorrow, you'll see it in this group.

Of the 16 private treaty heifers available Saturday at V8 Ranch, 10 have 380 in the first two generations of their pedigree.

Two are direct daughters.

Eight are out of 380 daughters.

That's 62.5% of the entire offering carrying his influence that close.

Twenty years after 380 was born, we're still talking about him.

Still breeding to him.

Still getting asked for his daughters.

Still seeing his influence in the cattle we believe can move our program forward.

There aren't many bulls that remain relevant generation after generation. There are even fewer whose influence actually creates the opportunity to come back and use them again.

Maybe that's why has always felt like more than a hashtag.

The average asking price might surprise you.

This Saturday, 16 V8 heifers will be available private treaty.

Prices range from $5,000 to $20,000.

But here's the number we think is worth talking about:

The average asking price is $10,937.

And 11 of the 16 heifers are priced at $10,000 or less.

These aren't cattle from one narrow corner of the program, either. There are multiple sires represented, generations of V8 cow families behind them, females with impressive EPD profiles and pedigrees carrying some of the most influential genetics we've ever produced.

We've always believed there should be opportunities for people to build with V8 genetics at different investment levels.
