From real life inspiration to final product, here’s a glimpse into the process that goes into creating cards for Heart and Skull. “Sanctuary” is a Cemetery Card that will be included in the first expansion pack, Cemetery Denizens.
It is an all purpose defense card that can be played on behalf of other players. Inspired by the tranquil moments I observed one day at Boise’s storied Morris Hill Cemetery when I encountered a small herd of deer in the heart of the city during hunting season.
I’m really happy with how this turned out and glad I steered away from the somewhat Jagermeister layout.

Another very successful six-player session ending with a humble pairing of Ribs and a Pelvis to complete a third skeleton. An “honest” win as we say in Sepulchre. Well done, Kevin!

Stocking up on swag and show materials as I begin to switch from production design to marketing!
The lovely pins are currently limited, so I’ll be using them as prizes for players who win games that I either observe or participate in.
Lots of cool stickers and custom “follow me” cards! Tell your friends!
Since I have a considerable amount of defunct cards used during play testing, I thought I’d hand them out. Initialed and punched for authenticity. Who knows? Maybe they’ll be worth something someday!

Working on the last few details for the Heart and Skull prototype. Doing some work on a quiet Saturday morning in preparation for live play testing events.
I’m excited about the significantly scaled down version and proud that I navigated the pivot as quickly as I did.
It’s peaceful here and I have hope, despite the chaos that seems to be erupting everywhere.

Had the wonderful opportunity to explore Sacramento’s historic cemetery. What a delightful reminder that the pioneers of the Old West aspired to match the sophistication of more civilized parts of the world.
I could have spent entire days there.

A glimpse into the steps of starting with ideas on paper, running it through multiple processes, all to create something that can be held and shared.
