Prototypes for the second Heart and Skull expansion arrived today! Here’s a quick unboxing video of Silent Symbols, an expansion that picks up where the core deck leaves off — taking a deeper dive into cemetery symbolism and providing players with expanded options for defense, attacking, and a few cards that totally upend how the game is played. Super excited to pass this production point and I really hope the crowdfunding in September goes well enough to make this available to backers.

This is the first reveal of the alternate card art for my all time favorite card, Witching Hour, that will be included in a secret tier during the scheduled Kickstarter campaign in September. The secret tier will include five of the most iconic cards from the core deck, reimagined with artwork that will never be used or published again after the campaign.

Today I am celebrating our wedding anniversary with my wife and it seemed appropriate to share the artwork process for a card from the second Heart and Skull expansion based on the fidelity iconography generally referred to as “Joined Hands”.
This was a popular motif for married couples in the late 1800s and is one I encounter frequently here in the West.
I worked primarily from a delightful alabaster grave marker I saw in Baker City, OR. The framing and (North?) Star make for a striking composition.
