If you’re heading to Art in the Park at Julia Davis Park this Saturday, September 12, take a stroll down to Capitol Contemporary Gallery and see live art in action!

From 12-2 pm artists, Linda Williams and Anne Peterson, will set up their easels outside the gallery for a special live painting session. Watch as they work, see their creative process unfold, and get a behind-the-scenes look at how their paintings develop from the first brushstrokes.

This is a casual, come-and-go event, so stop by for a few minutes or stay and watch the artists work. Linda and Anne will be painting throughout the afternoon and are happy to answer questions, talk about their work, and share insight into their individual approaches to painting.

We hope you’ll join us and experience the artists’ creative process firsthand!

"In my latest body of work, I explore Idaho’s diverse birds of prey, which include 34 different raptor species—the most of any state in the United States. This collection focuses on six of these remarkable birds, with the possibility of expanding the series in the future.

I approached each piece almost as a portrait, depicting a head-and-shoulders view of the bird layered over a landscape representing the environment where it can typically be found in Idaho. I also wanted to include a life-size feather from each species to help convey the scale and physical presence of these birds.

Working from actual feathers proved more challenging than I anticipated, as all feathers are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, which was established to protect native North American bird species. The bold color blocks and trompe l’oeil shadows add another layer to the work and continue my exploration of these elements in my signature style." -- Randy Van Dyck
