Upcoming events 📣

Aug 16th: I'll be teaching a Pain n' Sip at House of the Little Pig in Boise. A paint n sip is where you can drink a mimosa, beer, cocktail or your fav non-alcoholic bev & paint along with me while I teach the techniques!

Aug 29th-30th: Sagebrush Collaborative's Inaugural summer market! Shop local hand-made goods, get some food & drinks and listen to live music 🎶 This is Boise's newest summer market, come by to see all of the different vendors!

The owner of Sagebrush, Jess, is such a thoughtful curator and each vendor is unique and has their own creative style. You can see that reflected in her shop in Hyde Park as well!

Halo-halo 🍧🇵🇭
This is a delicious Filipino dessert (similar to a sundae) that means "mix-mix" in Tagalog.

You can put whatever you want in it, but it usually includes: ube ice cream, leche flan, shave ice, evaporated milk, sweet beans, macapuno, jack fruit, and jelly cubes

My favorite is the ube halaya (purple yam jam 😋)

2025 "Through the Cracks" Art Call for Military Creators! This is open to Veterans, active duty &
dependents in the Treasure Valley.
☆ Deadline: April 5th, 2025 ☆

Boise State University’s Veterans Services Center, Veteran Student Support Services, Veteran Readiness and Education, alongside guest co-curators and Boise State Alumni Mandee Snowden-Edmonds (US Army), and Sam Archide (US Air Force) seek to exhibit creators, makers, and artists who have either served in the United States armed forces, or are dependents of a military servicemember.

The exhibition will feature works created by servicemembers and dependents, past and present. Subjects are not required to pertain to the military; works of all subjects and mediums will be accepted. No previous background in making or art education is required to enter this exhibition. All works demonstrating mastery of technique, with a clear aesthetic and vision will be accepted.

This call is open to all students, faculty, and Treasure Valley community members who have served in the United States armed forces.
Works can include, but are not limited to:
● 2D and 3D Visual Arts (Painting and Drawing, Photography, and Sculpture)
● Functional Art (such as Ceramics, Furniture, Textiles and/or Clothing Design)
● Video Performance/Installation
● Digital Art
● Book/Paper/Collage Art, Poetry/Written Art

All genres, styles, and media will be considered. All work must be presentation ready and displayed as proposed. Submitted entries may be previously-created works, but must be the original work of the individual/group applying. AI Creations will not be considered.

Please submit a hi-res image of your piece(s) with a description of your piece in terms of size, media, display method, and insurance value.

Melinda, 1995 🩷

Down to the wire. This is my last painting as a student at Boise State (I graduate on Saturday!) It's a painting of my mom when she was pregnant with me. While painting this, I thought about all of the things that I associate with motherhood, from a daughters perspective. I thought about the different chapters of a person's life, sacrifice, and identity.

Swipe to see some details. The 7th photo is my mom, me and my little sister at the Legion of Honor museum in SF. I remember being amazed by the paintings! 😊

I was inspired by Velazquez's "Venus at her Mirror." The nature of the gaze is something that is discussed often in art history. Who is looking? Who is the subject/object? Who is the artist?

Duwende 🍄

According to Filipino folklore, there are creatures who are the guardians of nature. A duwende is similar to a gnome/dwarf, and they can be quite mischievous or curse people who disturb or harm the earth. A way around this curse is to say "tabi tabi po" (excuse me/pardon me) whenever passing secluded areas in nature or an anthill.

I wanted to focus on the "guardian" part of the folklore and show the duwende helping nature. Here, he guides and protects a small family of mice from a predator.

Ode to autumn 🍂

The blank shed in our backyard has been calling to me lately, so I decided to whip this out before it got too cold. I was thinking about autumn and when everything gets a little sleepy & slows down. There is a stillness in the air that I love, plus the trees look amazing.
