The Master of Fine Art, Visual Arts program immerses the student in an interdisciplinary environment that encourages innovative work in the studio and beyond.
The three-year program fosters students’ creative, intellectual, and professional development as artists who create excellent work, are able to discuss and contextualize their work cogently, and who are prepared to enter various career paths.
Course work emphasizes studio practices along with art history courses and seminars with a focus on contemporary topics. An active Visiting Artist and Scholars Program brings world-renowned artists and scholars to campus who offer lectures, workshops, and graduate studio critiques. The program culminates in an exhibition of a body of work, a written analysis that supports the work, and an oral defense of both.
Individual, private studios are provided in the Fine Arts Building for all MFA students and furnished with an iMac. Facilities include a hand-tool shop, spray booth, shared work spaces, critique space, and Neri Gallery – an exhibition space dedicated to showcasing the work of the graduate students.
