Q: Great! What's longform and what's improv?
A #1: Improv is a theatrical art form where everything is made up on the spot. While the structure of the show can be rehearsed, the material, the content of each show is not. Every show is unique, one-of-a-kind, never seen before and never to be seen again. Don't miss a single show or you'll be missing out!
A #2: Improv usually falls into two categories: shortform and longform. Shortform is the "game based" improv like you'll see on "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" or certain brands that involve team "competition." Big Tinfoil Ball doesn't do shortform - Longform is based in characters and stories, and will usually look a lot more like sketch comedy or a sitcom than the game work of shortform. Longform is generally a lot harder to do well.
Q: Oh! Does that mean improv is always funny?
A: Nope! Matter of fact, some master improvisers focus exclusively on dramatic improv - it's not unusual for an improv set to have a dramatic scene somewhere within it, even if the rest of the show is hilarious!
Q: So what should we expect from Big Tinfoil Ball?
A: Anything and everything. It's our mission to master every longform improv show we can find, so that eventually the structure of the show itself will be unrehearsed... Improvised. It's our goal to keep pushing the envelope... Keep pushing ourselves... Keep pushing comedy... Keep pushing drama... Keep pushing improv itself until BTB is known worldwide for our little show that started right here in the Treasure Valley.
