Cimarron Country Music Theater, CCMT, is what some might call the Oklahoma Panhandle's version of the Grand Ol' Opry! It’s that spectacular :)
Here’s the story how CCMT got started . . . by Sandy Hawkins
Chuck Hawkins lived his entire life in Cimarron County. In 1977, he started a Cimarron County Style “Hee Haw” show that was popular for 40+ years. He was at home on stage and enjoyed sharing a laugh and entertaining but he especially loved his community. He had a dream for a Music Theater in Boise City, OK maybe one day becoming a small Branson - he dreamed big! Well, his determination and commitment to showcasing talent and keeping a historical Palace Theater alive turned into Cimarron Country Music Theater. Our first show was June 2012.
Chuck passed away two years later at age 78 in December 2014 so you could say I, his wife of 60-years, Sandy Hawkins, inherited CCMT at Chuck’s death. He forgot to discuss with me buying the theater and I was a little steamed at him for awhile, but Chuck was the kind of man that followed his dreams. As it certainly was not my dream or passion, I knew absolutely nothing about music; however, I did like public speaking so thought I could offer that to the show.
CCMT’s spectacular House Band and our outstanding Production Crew including Reporter have made the shows continue to happen for the past 6-years. I could never have done it without all their support and help. All the guest entertainers from our 5-State area have kept it alive too with their amazing talent and generosity of time.
Now all of a sudden it seemed I was 80-years old and didn’t know any more about music than I did when we started CCMT. I have had so much encouragement from the band, crew and singers to keep it going. Plus nice comments from those of you attending.
So I have enlisted the help of my daughter, Sharla, to market CCMT and see if we can get it on the map! Sharla shared this dream with her dad and encourages me so much. I do have a granddaughter in Boise City, Kari Maul, very involved with CCMT too.
I do love the Theater - being with all the talented people who work hard at perfecting and keeping it going and the people who attend. I have no doubt that Chuck knew if he just had time to get me hooked that I would carry it on, not only for him but for Boise City. I’m hooked!
I've been involved in a lot of community work most of my life: Alumni secretary & president; helped form "Save Our Hospital" and president; active in Eta Alpha Sorority - a service sorority that has done lots of community work and projects over 60-years; BC Chamber secretary, president, board member; and my favorite was all the "Fund Raisers" for local people. I’ve also been active in my church 60 some years.
My family is most important - eight grandchildren and three children, but I lost a son in 2016. So that’s our story . . . we hope you’ll come be a part of the show whether performing or attending!
