As I stood on the beach tonight watching the sun slowly disappear beyond the horizon, I found myself overwhelmed with gratitude.
Five years ago, V.E.I.S.S. was simply an idea born from a journey that I never asked for but chose to embrace. Today, I stood surrounded by people from different backgrounds, countries, experiences, and stories, all connected by something greater than ourselves.
This weekend reminded me that healing is not always found in medicine. Sometimes it is found in conversation. Sometimes it is found in community. Sometimes it is found in being seen, heard, and accepted exactly as you are.
Our final activity was simple but powerful. We wrote down what no longer aligns with who we are becoming and released it into the bonfire. In its place, we wrote down a wish, a goal, or a dream that we are willing to work toward.
As I watched those pieces of paper disappear into the flames, I realized that growth often requires letting go. Letting go of fear. Letting go of doubt. Letting go of expectations. Letting go of the things that keep us from becoming who we were created to be.
Tonight my heart is full.
To every speaker, participant, volunteer, partner, member, supporter, friend, and family member who believed in this vision and helped bring it to life, thank you.
To my grandmother, Lady Ruby Bute, who taught me that purpose is not measured by what we gain but by what we give, thank you for keeping me grounded. I carried your spirit with me throughout the preparations prior leading to and this entire weekend.
As one chapter closes, another begins.
Tomorrow we continue with V.E.I.S.S. Vitiligo Awareness month Book Week because the work continues, the mission continues, and the love continues.
We Do Not See Color, We See Love.
With a grateful heart,
