We wanted to shine a spotlight on Jacob Cloud, one of our CNC & Digital Operations Team members who just celebrated 8 years with the 3dxScenic.
- What drew you to our company originally?
"My journey would probably be best described as destiny, if you will. I have been working in theater since 2007. Starting out dabbling in theater at college that grew into a more serious and productive role once I graduated and found myself overseas behind the scenes on a Cruise Ship as one of the Stage Crew. After a couple years working in ship theaters, I came back to the States where I became heavily involved with all theater, street, outdoor and HAUNT performances throughout each season at Kings Island in Ohio. I had the privilege to work with many different groups and crews from scenery fabrication and performance groups throughout the world. Then I considered what it would be like to be part of the teams who make the scenery and found 3dx Scenic. "
- How has the company supported your professional growth or career development?
"From the start, the company wanted to help train and ensure there was something everyone could do to help in each project. I gravitated towards working with the company CNC Milling machines as an Operator. After some time, I wanted to get more familiar with that position and how does it work. What could I do to make it more efficient for me and for my team. I was trained to understand and how to program the machinery. The company then bought a large robotic milling arm, and I was trained how to operate and program this new way to create parts and sculptures."
- What’s a challenge you overcame that helped you grow?
"There were a lot of challenges I have had to overcome since starting my path into the CNC world. The organic way to build and finish scenery was turned into numbers and machine noises at first. After understanding how each machine ‘behaved,” I was able to finally find a way to program in their favor. As strange as it may sound, I found a mutual way to work with the machines just like if they were another employee. A lot of what I do does involve exacts and numbers, but there is a sense of art to how I can create a sculpture that would have been lost to me if I had not looked past what seemed like a closed box with no creativity."
- If you could pick a theme song for your workday, what would it be?
"'It’s Five O'Clock Somewhere' by Alan Jackson"
- How do you stay motivated or energized during busy weeks?
"As long as I have a clear goal for myself each day, I can stay motivated and ready to work. If work turns into a more tedious process, I just think about my cats at home."
- Coffee or tea—and how do you take it?
"Coffee with creamer."
We are so happy to have Jacob as part of the team! 😀
