Take time for yourself for a special series we are calling Lunch & Learn: A Slow Art Experience.

What is Slow Art?

Most of us stroll through an art gallery, pausing at a piece of art for a few moments before moving on to the next, like some form of visual buffet. Slow Art as a concept was created to encourage us all to stay with the art for a little longer, savor, and soak it in. The hope is that we not only see more, but also get to know the works in greater detail. Exploring artworks more slowly can help us to form more stories, feelings, and opinions about the works.

Register today at BlowingRockMuseum.org/calendar. Meal selections must be made when purchasing a ticket. Ticket sales end at 4 pm on Friday prior to the tour. (if tour takes place Saturday, June 13, ticket sales end Friday, June 12, at 4 pm)

This is a call for all Visual Artists & Poets! We want you to submit your work for this year's "ARS POETICA: A Juried Exhibition". Submissions are due by June 26 at 5 pm.

Horace, the renowned lyric poet of ancient Rome, famously wrote in Ars Poetica that “as is painting, so is poetry.” Though distinct in their methods, both art forms strive to evoke similar emotions and insights. Horace argued that when experienced together, their power to transform is even greater. This idea continues to drive the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum's (BRAHM) annual project.

With that in mind, BRAHM is excited to present this year’s ARS POETICA IV, a juried exhibition showcasing the collaborative potential between poetry and visual art. Please email [email protected].

Join us this Thursday, June 11, at 4 pm for an engaging talk exploring how Southern landscape painters captured the terrain of the American South. From the craggy ridgelines of Appalachia to the humid stillness of the Louisiana Swamp, artists rendered the region not merely as scenery, but as mythic space—charged with history, identity, and atmosphere. Special attention will be given to artists who frequently explored and sketched the wilds of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
We are joined by Sarah Tignor, Director of The Johnson Collection. This program is presented free to the public through the generosity of the Bryant and Nancy Hanley Foundation. Reserve your spot now at BlowingRockMuseum.org/calendar.
