I know I’ve posted this painting a few times now but I’m proud and grateful that it has joined the permanent collection of the BRAHM. Thank you Stephan and to the whole team- congratulations on your 15 year milestone, all that you have achieved, and for everything you do for the community and the Arts! This painting depicts a “mash up” of Jefferson’s Monticello reading room window with a view of Marcel Breuer’s Robert C. Weaver Building in Washington D.C. I personally love this painting and I’m humbled that it has found a home at BRAHM. Thank you Miles McEnery Gallery for all of your support.

~2 month process of making this painting… lots of drawing, mixing colors, cutting out stencils, applying paint with a squeegee, spraying… tedious but I love doing it and am grateful for every minute I get to spend in the studio. Shout out to Ethan Meyers for the studio assist!

“…the most we gaze at it in wonder, a kind of wonder which in itself is a form of dawning horror, for somehow we know by instinct that outsize buildings cast the shadow of their own destruction before them, and are designed from the first with an eye to their later existence as ruins.”
W.G. Sebald, Austerlitz

Thrilled to be included in the exhibition “Visions of the City” opening today Rollins Museum of Art.

Drawn entirely from the museum’s permanent collection, this exhibition explores representations of urban life across various media. How are depictions of city living reflective of the social, cultural, and political factors shaping these environments? What are the visual markers of rapidly growing cities, and how have artists interpreted them as signs of progress, technological innovation, and expansion? Fascinated by skyscrapers, fast-paced lifestyles, bridges, and the city’s lively atmosphere, artists often approach these themes from personal experience, creating works that both document and analyze their significance in a rapidly changing world. Visions of the City brings together paintings, photographs, and prints from the 19th to the 21st century, showcasing cityscapes from the U.S. and around the globe.

“Athens”. 2017, Acrylic on Dibond, 80 x 80 in. The Alfond Collection of Contemporary Art, Rollins Museum of Art.
