Frequent Exchange exhibitor Jessica Rghtnour-Miller of Bloomsburg brought this acrylic painting to the "Wheels" show. Entitled "Floral Bike", it measures 16 inches high by 20 inches wide and has a price of $80.

The "Wheels" show has 69 pieces by 46 artists from five central-Pennsylvania counties. Just as we had done with "Art Grows on the Farm" in 2021 and "Food for Thought" two years later, "The Wheels on the Bus . . . and the Tractor . . . and the Truck . . . THIS WEEK'S NEWS HIGHLIGHT: Jon White-Spunner has joined The Exchange as Development Director.

The Exchange happily announces that Jon White-Spunner has joined the organization as our new Development Director. In this role, Jon will lead The Exchange’s fundraising efforts, broadening and deepening our support as we continue to bring the arts to all communities throughout our region.

“Jon has a well-earned reputation as one of our region’s arts community’s leaders,” said Oren B. Helbok, The Exchange’s executive director. “His many years of experience here in Bloomsburg, his upstanding character, and his steadfast commitment to the arts align perfectly with the work and the mission of The Exchange. Our organization’s board of directors and I look forward to working with Jon as we broaden and deepen The Exchange’s connections with the people who likewise recognize the arts as essential to this region’s vibrancy.”

Jon has previously served The Exchange as a board member, including as treasurer in a term that ended in 2022. Jon has already devoted most of his working life in the service of the arts, with the majority of that time in the nonprofit world. Jon has run arts organizations in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa, and also in Los Angeles, Boston, and most recently here in Bloomsburg, where he worked as managing director at Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble for two stints beginning in 1999 and ending in August 2025.

“I am excited to join Oren and the other Exchange staff members and the members of the Board of the Exchange as they continue to provide artistic opportunities and experiences to the community,” Jon said. “It is my belief that a community cannot be a fully functioning entity without a significant artistic component. The Exchange on Main Street provides Bloomsburg and surrounding communities with one such component.”

The Exchange’s programs include the Exchange Gallery at 24 East Main Street in Bloomsburg, which displays work year-’round by hundreds of artists of all ages and levels of experience; the Art Cart, which travels to more than fifty venues in four counties and through simple art activities engages people of all ages to bring out the beauty that they have inside; the Listening Room, a unique music venue that connects performers and audiences; ArtFest, which annually attracts thousands of attendees to meet artists, craftspeople, musicians, and food vendors on one of Bloomsburg’s most beautiful streets; and ArtOfPA.org, a comprehensive arts-and-culture resource for the central Susquehanna Valley.

Our Halloween and Fall Foliage train rides are 2 weeks away!🎃🍁

The 10AM and 12PM rides will feature a special costume contest, music, and costumed characters! 👻🦇

The 2PM ride will be a peaceful 2 hour excursion to Northumberland and back. This ride is mainly for adults who are interested in taking in the fall scenery.

Two very different interpretations of "Wheels" here, one very literal and the other not so much. At the bottom, Brad Sweigart's "Big Wheels A'Rolling" in markers, 9 inches high by 12 inches wide, $10. Above that, Lynn Patrick's "Circle of the Seasons Keeps Spinning" in paint markers on four 5x7 canvas panels and not for sale. Both of these pieces come to us through the good offices of Kelly Klock, art therapist at Danville State Hospital.

Denise Bosworth grew up at Rohrbach's Farm, one of the fourth generation farmers there, and her enthusiasm for art and for collaborating with organizations across our community has led to the three shows that have hung at the farm and at The Exchange. (We can also thank Denise for the annual donation of pumpkins that we throw off the Bloomsburg Fire Department's ladder truck at BOO!burg!) Denise has worked with all sorts of tools and implements and equipment and has seen how they have changed over the years; this photo of hers in the "Wheels" show pays tribute to the rugged construction of older things. "They Don't Make Them Like They Used To" measures 13 inches high by 16 inches wide overall and has a price of $70.

When one thinks about the wheel as perhaps the most important invention in human history, one may most likely think of it as a means of transportation, on anything from a wheelbarrow to a high-speed train. But the wheel can also serve as a means of collecting energy too. First-time Exchange Gallery exhibitor Cheryl Patton of Danville brought oil paintings to the "Wheels" show that show both of these possibilities: "Wagon Wheel" measures 20-1/2 inches high by 16-1/2 inches wide overall and has a price of $195; "Waterwheel at Eastern University" measures 18 inches high by 22 inches wide overall and has a price of $375.
