The American Passion Play is a drama depicting the Ministry and Passion of Jesus Christ, held each Spring at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts in Bloomington, Illinois. The Play takes you to Palestine, 30 A.D. You'll travel with Christ, seeing the world as He saw it. You'll follow His ministry and life from the Sermon on the Mount to the Resurrection and Ascension. You'll hear His wor

ds, as vital to you now as they were to the people of his time. The American Passion Play, unlike other passion plays, dramatizes Jesus' entire ministry, rather than just the events from the Passion Week onward. His teachings on faith, love, justice and righteousness are still our best hope for solving today's complex problems. The message of his three-year ministry has a larger meaning for our daily lives than do the emotions of Passion Week alone. The play is historically accurate. The settings and costumes re-create the first century Galilee. The text is taken from the King James Version of the Bible, and the performers bring this magnificent language to life. Now in its 89th season, the American Passion Play of Bloomington, Illinois was conceived by Delmar D. Darrah to show the life and ministry of Christ as a vital, living force. Although this is one of the oldest continuously performed Passion Plays in the United States, it is not a static drama. The production has changed to reflect modern historical knowledge of the era but has remained true to the teachings of Jesus. The actors are non-professionals with a spiritual dedication to their parts and to the American Passion Play. As performers, they share in a community of faith with the audience and give testimony to the contemporary power of Christ's teachings.

Due to the City of Bloomington shutting down the facility until April 12, the scheduled performances of the American Passion Play had to be cancelled for 2020. We are saddened by this but it was out of our control. Thank you for your continued support of this wonderful production.

This is an update regarding the City's response to the COVID-19 virus (Coronavirus). As stated before, for the most up-to-date information on the virus itself, recommended practices, etc., please visit the website of one of these trusted health agencies:

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Illinois Department of Public Health
McLean County Health Department

As of today, the City is canceling the following events and programs. When possible, we will work to reschedule in the future:
-The Guns & Hoses hockey game at Grossinger Motors Arena scheduled for March 13
-The Lauren Daigle show at Grossinger Motors Arena, scheduled for March 14
-The Indoor Farmers Market at Grossinger Motors Arena, scheduled for March 21
-The Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts will be closed through April 12.
-The City's Senior and S.O.A.R. programs administered through the Bloomington Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Department department will be closed through April 12. This includes the Senior Center in Miller Park.
-Business travel by City employees is not permitted through April 12.
-Select Boards and Commissions meetings may be canceled between now and April 12; check the City's website calendar for cancellations when/if they become available.

People registered for Senior and S.O.A.R. (Special Opportunities Available in Recreation) programs through the Parks department will receive credit on their accounts for canceled programs. People that have tickets to canceled events at the Arena and/or BCPA will be contacted with more information.

Please keep in mind that the City provides online and over-the-phone bill pay and other services in many instances.

There will be further communication if/when more updates become available.
