IU First Nations Founded in 2007. Committed to building community and raising awarenss of Indigenous isssues, culture and history.

All IU events, groups, activities, educational, cultural, and historical observances welcome all members of the IU community The First Nations Educational & Cultural Center (FNECC) supports the recruitment and retention of American Indian, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, and Indigenous students, faculty, and staff at IU. Its mission is to build a Native community within the university, enhance th

e recognition and reputation of these communities, and provide educational opportunities that further awareness of First Nations people.

Introducing our Emcee for the Powwow, Don Lyons. Don is a citizen of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and a descendant of the Six Nations Mohawk. Born and Raised in Detroit, Michigan, Don remains connected to his indigenous roots through the love and support of his parents, grandparents (boarding school survivors), and mentorship from the urban native community of Detroit.
