Coalescence Theatre Project is THRILLED about the recent announcement of our National New Play Network (NNPN) membership!🥳 But what exactly does that mean?
Well, this is an exciting milestone for our organization and an opportunity to expand the ways we discover, develop, and share new stories with our community. At the heart of NNPN is a philosophy that aligns closely with Coalescence: supporting playwrights and strengthening theatre communities🎉
NNPN was founded in part to help new plays find life beyond their world premiere. Too often, a play’s second or third production can be difficult to secure once the spotlight of a premiere has passed. NNPN’s "Rolling World Premiere" model offers a creative solution, allowing multiple theatres across the country to produce the same play within a season. The result is greater visibility for playwrights, meaningful connections between theatres, and more opportunities for audiences to encounter new work🎭
We’re also excited to have access to the New Play Exchange (NPX), a resource that connects playwrights and producers and opens the door to discovering voices we may not otherwise encounter. This builds naturally upon what Coalescence is already doing through partnerships with other theatre companies and like-minded organizations, as well as our commitment to producing new work!!🌎
Through NNPN, we’ll have even more opportunities to connect with playwrights directly and, when possible, invite them into the process through productions and staged readings; giving artists the chance to see their work evolve in the room!!📝
NNPN is more than a new affiliation for Coalescence. It’s a new resource, a new network, and a new opportunity to grow. We’re incredibly excited to see where this partnership takes us and to discover the artists, stories, and collaborations that come next!💡
