Tamachi Goodsonâs cello career includes orchestral, chamber, solo, and community performances. Her accomplishments include placing first in the Arizona MusicFest Annual Young Musicians Competitions and she received first place in the Senior Division Bach Cello Suite Competition at the University of Arizona. At age 16, she made her solo debut with the Phoenix Symphony upon receiving the Clotilde Otranto Prize in the orchestraâs 2016 Scholarship Competition. Goodson has appeared frequently in concerts as a section leader in the Phoenix Youth Symphony and as a featured artist in local concert series such as the Arizona MusicFest seasonal concerts. This year, she will perform as assistant principal in the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Philharmonic Orchestra. Goodson has been featured on media platforms such as KTAR radio, KAZ TV, and Fox10 TV, representing the Phoenix Youth Symphony and its activities ranging from concerts, reach-outs, and fundraisers. During her time at the Phoenix Youth Symphony, she first place in the 2015 and 2016 Phoenix Youth Symphony (PYS) Young Musicians Competition. Along with ensemble and concert engagements, Goodson is a frequent volunteer and a performer at homeless shelters and womenâs shelters. Her recent activities include a benefit concert, featuring the local composer Sulaiman Zai, as a fundraiser for the Bloomington homeless shelter, New Hope for Families. In her high school years, she gave weekly lessons as a member of Harmony Project PHX as a volunteer private cello instructor. Goodsonâs cello study at the age of 13 began with Mary DiBartolo and Peter Anderegg. She is currently studying for her Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance at the Jacobs School of Music under Professor Peter Stumpf. She is a member of the Gilgamesh String Quartet and a regular volunteer at the Project School, a private elementary school based in Bloomington, Indiana. In her free time, she enjoys baking and painting.
