With this beautiful weather I was able get get out and attempt a wooden cup/mug. I hear you can seal them for liquids with a mineral oil and beeswax mix. Here's hoping it turns out!

I'm pretty excited to add a copy of the original Dragon Lord Saga book 1 to my book collection. I think I am only missing a "Satchel volume 1" now.

Ideation.

Sometimes a really fun and cool idea turns out well but isn't worth the work that went in to finishing the project. I wanted to make nine of these for a board game but it took three tries to get this one out and uses more material than I felt it was worth. Maybe I'll pick the project back up at a later date but for now- it'll just be the one.

Steamed

My fist attempt ever at an enclosed sand casting, I've done open and I've done lost foam and lost wax the lost foam and lost wax both have dry sand and the open molds have not q lot of sand. So mixing a larger batch of sand I got it too wet and it ruined the casting as well as not having proper venting to get good flow of metal.

But I still think even bad castings look cool

This is a casting of a bowl I originally turned out of wood that I used as a form

This is how my brass truck emblem is going as well as a picture of a different truck of where the original emblem was on the truck.

Colder days.

I finally got some work done on these hot summer days to prep my fireplace to be used for reducing maple sap into syrup in the spring. Someday I hope to enclose this in a sugar shack but first- the fire.

Reproduction.

Today I made an attempt at casting some original 1970's Dodge truck emblems for my new truck. This time it was brass for practice I hope, ultimately, to make them from copper. I think if I made it a closed cast and maybe multiple small pours it would turn out better but I'm not sad. I'll get them cleaned up a little better and show them again.

After some cleaning and new wiring the working restoration is satisfactory.

Although this unit has little to no information on it the best I can find is it was manufactured in or around 1954 as it appears in a magazine article about them the company, Shop Master, Inc., produced a few bench top power tools from 1948 until the 1970s and were a Minnesota company. This seems to be a J20 as it has a 20 inch throat and the electric motor was manufactured by Dayton motors but seems to be a specialized motor with an incorporated gear which is why I sought an electric motor repair shop to put new leads onto it. It doesn't have a lot of power at 1/15 hp but it is able to cut wood and I even tried it on 1/8 copper (patients is a virtue :-)

I bought this thinking "cool, a reasonably priced tool that might be worth it from someone I have some connection to"

Now it has become more, I genuinely love the art deco style, the Minnesota company and the rarity and unique qualities. I felt that restoring it was a way I could honor Tom and the memories shared with me by his kids.

Redemption.

I recently got this older scroll saw. I took it apart and nearly everything looks great. It needs new wiring on the special electric motor so I decided to take that to a shop.
I absolutely love the style and look of this saw.

Reclamation.

After visiting a friend's farm sale where they were cleaning out the sheds for sale after their father passed (also a man I knew) I brought home a few tools of his that had fallen into disrepair. Some attention and a bunch of penetrating oil it should go as soon as I get a blade!
