October 1, 2017, music director, Andrew Neer and concertmaster Andrew Wu joined with area professionals to present a concert dedicated to those who were suffering loss during the Hurricanes in fall of 2017. More than 60 professional musicians volunteered their time to perform Dvorak’s 9th Symphony “From the New World,” raising nearly $15,000 for the cause. This performance sparked the question “What happened to the symphony from Birmingham/Bloomfield?” An exploratory committee was formed to determine need and desire and along the way, gained several board members from the Birmingham Bloomfield Symphony (about to close their doors forever). Both boards decided to adopt / take over where the BBSO stopped to form a new entity, “Orchestra Sono.” While most of the faces of the board have changed, the mission to bring incredible music to the neighborhoods of Birmingham, Bloomfield and Metropolitan Detroit remains the same.
We are proud to announce that we will have a season coming to you all for 2019-2020. Please stay tuned and visit our website for more details. In addition, we have developed a relationship with neighborhood organizations (example: Oakland Choral Society) to bring more diverse programming options to your neighborhoods.
We can’t wait to bring music to you!
