ROY's HALL is one of New Jersey's most intimate, engaging and dynamic arts venues. Its foundations were originally those of Blairstown's Main Street Livery. In 1913 the concrete structure at 30 Main Street was fashioned into a movie theatre and community hall by early film exhibitors, Robert Roy and Raymond Smith. Dubbed Roy's Theatre, the building opened on April 2, 1913 and began screening silen
t movies twice a week. A spectacular fire on February 7, 1917 caused major damage to the theatre and destroyed five apartments adjacent to the structure. Rebuilt and modernized, Roy's Hall reopened on July 14, 1917 and continued to show silent movies until 1930, when it was converted to "talkies." Although the theatre survived the devastating flood of 1955 when much of Main Street was under water, the heavy competition from television was too great an adversary. Roy's Hall now stands as the centerpiece of Blairstown NJ's vintage Main Street, surrounded by shops, galleries and restaurants. The emphasis in on live music at Roy's but theatrical performances, classic film and community events are all vital to mission of this member supported theater operated by NJ 501(c)(3) not-for-profit Blairstown Live-Arts, Inc. The lobby and hallways of Roy's are adorned with vintage photographs, original paintings and mixed media by local artists, adding to the funky atmosphere of this cozy art house. A combination of friendly dedicated staff and high production value leads to an intimate LIVE concert experience that is second to none! ROY'a HALL is centrally located on Main Street in Blairstown, New Jersey, just five miles north of Interstate 80, approximately ten miles east of the Pennsylvania border and minutes away from the celebrated Delaware Water Gap park and recreational center. ROY's bright blue facade is a beacon to those seeking a cultural refuge in NW NJ and is a familiar sight to anyone who has ever visited Main Street, Blairstown.
