****Attention Makers****
In partnership with Arts Idaho and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, and to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, the Blackfoot Ranch Rodeo is commissioning a unique set of prizes for the winners of this year’s ranch rodeo.
We are looking for leather workers, rawhide braiders, and silversmiths to design and build the following commissioned pieces:
4 bridle bits for Champion Men’s Team
4 sets of stirrups for Reserve Men’s Team
4 cantle bags for Third Place Men’s Team
4 sets of spurs for Champion Women’s Team
4 headstalls for Reserve Women’s Team
1 bridle bit for Top Horse award
1 set of rawhide romal reins for Reserve Top Horse award
To be considered for a commission, prospective craftsmen and women must submit a design for the prize they would like to build, and a bid for the cost of the prize by 1 March 2026. Chosen makers will be announced on 9 March 2026. Pieces must be completed and delivered by 10 June 2026, so they can be displayed at our sponsors’ businesses prior to the rodeo on June 26-27.
Those seeking a commission may submit proposals for multiple prizes. Prizes in sets of 4 should be the same design. Gear makers should build their pieces with the working cowboy in mind, making their designs functional for everyday work. Specific details such as the incorporation of logos or language are forthcoming but plan, if possible, to include phrases like ‘America 250,’ ‘Blackfoot Ranch Rodeo,’ 2026, and possibly the Smithsonian Folklife sun logo.
Please submit all designs and bids to [email protected] or message us on Facebook Ranch Rodeo. Mail in submissions should be sent to:
