Sun Salutations

An aerial photo from yesterday morning in Long Valley, overlooking the Owens River and the Eastern Sierra Nevada. I woke early to catch the sunrise on the peaks, watch the herons and anglers stalk trout, and fly over the caldera in my favorite light.

Tucked into eastern California near the town of Mammoth Lakes, the Long Valley Caldera is one of the largest calderas on Earth — a bowl-shaped depression roughly 20 miles long, 11 miles wide, and up to 3,000 feet deep. It formed 760,000 years ago when a colossal eruption emptied the magma chamber beneath it, sending ash as far as Nebraska and Kansas and leaving behind the thick volcanic rock known as Bishop tuff....

Back in September 2025, I worked with Family Services staff at Toiyabe Indian Health Project to record and create a video highlighting their 15th Annual Walk for Life event, to spread awareness and education about su***de in Native American/Indigenous communities.

Many Native American communities experience an elevated su***de rate. Su***de takes an enormous toll on families and friends, leaving Native communities devastated by this national health problem. Toiyabe Indian Health Project hopes that Walk for Life will unite our communities with the common goals of preventing su***de and ending the stigma that surrounds depression and other mental health disorders.

Last summer I spent a couple mornings with Jarrett C***s of Sierra Mountain Trout Guide Service, flying the drone while he searched for warm water fishes in the .

He is an excellent guide and just fun to be on the water with.

A slow moving reel of aerial footage from the place I call home, the Eastern Sierra Nevada, which I shot and created in 2023. The Owens Valley Paiute (Nüümü) people call this region Payahuunadü, or Land of Flowing Water. Enjoy!
