Yesterday we had our first rehearsal for Stay Awake and that means BCT'S 79TH SEASON HAS OFFICIALLY STARTED! 💙💛❤️

Stay Awake invites children under 5 (and their caregivers) on a fantastical journey through Dreamland where every shape and color inspires the imagination. This team is ready to create a beautiful upside-down lullaby for you all!

Performances start September 9th, and we've just opened up select Wednesday morning performances along with our Saturdays.

🎭 What is Theatre for the Very Young? 🎭

Theatre for the Very Young (TVY) is a growing genre of performance created especially for our tiniest audience members — babies, toddlers, and preschoolers (typically ages 0-5)! Unlike traditional theatre, TVY is intimate, sensory-rich, and designed with the developmental needs of young children in mind: think soft lighting, gentle sound, close-up interaction, and plenty of room for wiggling, pointing, and reacting out loud (yes, that's allowed here!).

Why does it matter? The benefits are huge for little ones:

🧠 Brain development — Early exposure to storytelling, music, and movement supports language acquisition and cognitive growth during critical developmental windows.

💛 Emotional & social growth — TVY introduces young children to shared experiences, turn-taking, and emotional expression in a safe, supportive space.

👀 Sensory exploration — Multi-sensory elements (touch, sound, light, movement) help little ones build sensory processing skills.
