Thank you to everyone who joined us for A Ruby Revue and to the performers, volunteers, supporters and audiences who have made Terrific New Theatre part of Birmingham's arts community for four decades.

Be honest: What were YOU doing in the '80s?

Were you rocking shoulder pads? Teasing your bangs? Making questionable fashion decisions involving neon? Maybe you weren’t even born yet. (Please keep that information to yourself. Some of us are processing things.)

Meanwhile, Terrific New Theatre was beginning a story that would last four decades and counting.

As we get ready to celebrate TNT’s 40th Anniversary on October 11, we’re digging through old photographs, newspaper clippings and memories — and we want to see yours, too.

Now THAT’S a strike crew. 🛠️

TNT board members and volunteers rolled up their sleeves together and, just hours after THE COUNTER closed, made quick work of the coffee shop set, clearing the stage for something a little more… wicked. Next up: SWEENEY TODD. ✂️

Big thanks to our growing volunteer crew and the folks helping lead the charge: TNT Board President Chuck, keeping everyone fueled; board member Josh, fearlessly deconstructing all the things; board member Shannon, bringing extra hands and capturing the action; Monty, leading the set crew; and Tam, making sure only the right things got pulled apart.

This is community theatre in the most literal sense: people showing up and making it happen together.

It was 1986.

"Top Gun" was in theaters. Whitney Houston was topping the charts. Big hair was practically mandatory.

And a little theatre in Birmingham was just getting started.

Forty years later, Terrific New Theatre is still here — still making theatre, taking chances, telling stories and bringing people together.

On October 11, we’re going back to where it all began as part of TNT’s 40th Anniversary celebration. We’ll revisit moments from four decades of TNT history and celebrate the actors, directors, volunteers, patrons and friends who made them possible.

If you’ve ever been part of TNT — onstage, backstage or in the audience — this anniversary belongs to you, too.

Time for another Tam and Tawny Talk TNT on Tuesdays! We're having a party, y'all, and YOU can put your name on TNT’s next 40 years.

As part of our Ruby Anniversary celebration, you can add your name to our 40th Anniversary Wall in the Actors Hallway for $40. Doors open at 1:00 p.m., with the program beginning at 1:30 p.m.

There’s no admission fee. Donations are suggested, reservations are required, and 1980s-level hairspray consumption is entirely at your discretion.

It’s a celebration of the community that has kept this theatre going since 1986.

Forty years of theatre takes a whole lot of people.
