🎨 Artists: would you recognize a scam before you sent the money?

During a recent Alabama Art Supply pricing workshop, an artist told us someone contacted her wanting to buy six pieces of artwork for $1,300.

There was just one problem.

The “buyer” wanted to send her a $2,500 check and have her send $1,200 back.

Thankfully, she stopped and asked before doing anything.

That conversation prompted our newest Studio Notes article: Art Scams: What Artists Need to Know Before Saying Yes.

We look at fake-check and overpayment scams, suspicious commissions, questionable art fairs and exhibition opportunities, NFTs, social-media scams, unauthorized reproduction of artwork—and some practical ways to protect yourself and your work.

The goal isn't to make artists suspicious of every new collector or opportunity. It's to help you recognize when something simply doesn't add up.

🚩 If someone is buying your art, money should be moving toward you—not away from you.

Portia Williams’ Introduction to Oil Painting was standing-room-only! She lead an amazing class and told us about the different qualities of oil paint, color theory, oil mediums, and safe handling practices.

We had a great Color Theory class last Saturday! Thanks to all who came!

We talked about the emotions of color, color in customs and advertising, and then explored warm and cool color palettes.
