We are thrilled to announce our speaker for the BCHGS July Quarterly meeting will be Alabama Humanities Alliance Road Scholar Mike Bunn. Join us for a story of "drama, action, and consequence" as Bunn discusses his book, The Forgotten Story of the Gulf South During America's Revolutionary Era.

The British colony of West Florida once stretched from the Mississippi River to portions of what are now the states of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Author and historian Mike Bunn refers to this as the "Forgotten Fourteenth Colony" of America's Revolutionary era. Hear his accounting of the colony's eventful years as a part of the British Empire and how they form an important and compelling interlude in Gulf Coast history that has been overlooked for far too long.

Join us for a story of drama, action, and consequence! Everyone is welcome to attend a BCHGS meeting. Come meet the author and purchase a signed copy of Fourteenth Colony which won the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution's Excellence in American History Award.

Congratulations to Garrett Ashley and Kwoya Fagin Maples, Writer, both of whom will be featured in our next issue of First Draft, and to our dear friends and colleagues Tina Mozelle Braziel, Erika E. Wade, James Braziel, and to Maria Kuznetsova, and Bobby Matthews! These great Alabama writers and poets were just named 2027 Artist Fellows by the Alabama State Council on the Arts! The competitive Fellowship grant program empowers emerging and established artists and arts educators to hone their skills and pursue innovative projects, and come with an award of $7,500.
