Can you see the slight shimmer? I began this painting with a gold background. This layer gives movement to the water as light touches it. It feels like the shadow of a slow dance in a dream.

Another layer done, about two more to do. One of challenge of watercolor is to build interest and intricacy without texture (although, sometimes I use a bit of that, too.😉). I do this by building layers of bright colors and mix them on the watercolor ground as I paint. this doesn't always work well on paper, but can look almost encaustic (painting with pigmented wax) when done on watercolor ground.

Because I paint in watercolors, I paint from lights to darks over many layers. My first layers look like the ghosts of what will be. Although my paintings do not start off dynamic, I enjoy the peace of gently becoming.

"The Boom of Hidden Places"
You can look with grace on the path that lead you to a place you love. If you end up living a life that fits your skin and soul, the sections of the path that were hard become apart of the story, but no longer the whole. Build your life with creativity and boldness until you enjoy being in the days you are given.
