Forge Rat Hand Forged knives and Hand Forged items Knives I make are carbon steel. They can and will rust if not properly maintained.

A cleaning and frequent oiling is all that’s required after use to maintain. It is also recommended that knives are not stored in sheath (it is- really). I try to leave some witness marks on steel to affirm the hand forging of the steel, that is intended.

Another sharpening job. 2 high end Chefs knives. Sharpened to 13dps with a slight 15dps microbevel. By far the two sharpest knives I’ve had come off my bench to date. Using a sharpmaker at 15dps should keep these two razors for years. Thanks for the opportunity. Brought to me by my Union brother Ryan for his Masons brother.

Been away for a minute to tend to personal issues but I have stayed somewhat busy with sharpening. This is a cleaver/chopper or whatever the maker calls it. My friend Brian owns it and asked me to sharpen it because he decided to show his son how tough it was by going forged in fire on a bone I believe. It was rolled a good 16th inch minimum. Sharpened at 18dps with 20dps micro bevel. Guarantee this was not this sharp when he bought it.

I will share what I learn with everyone, and this is one: The Spyderco Sharpmaker. Period. Get one. It will change your knife sharp game. I profile all my knives less than 20dps so a sharpmakers bevel will bring back a hair-splitting edge.
I initially looked at this at a $65 and up price and said no way. Things change. I use this instead of a strop. Just use it to touch up and your knife will always be sharp and ready. I’m working on a YouTube about it as well. Stay scary sharp folk!
