🌙 After dark, precision takes on a different kind of magic.
In our current exhibit, Remarkable Precision: Photorealism & Beyond, nocturnal scenes by Robert Gniewek and Hisaya Taira transform familiar places into studies of light, atmosphere, and meticulous observation.
Robert Gniewek’s Willo-Acres captures the quiet glow and stillness of a suburban motel at night, while Hisaya Taira’s 34th Street Station brings the energy and luminosity of New York City underground into sharp focus.
Two artists. Two very different nocturnal worlds. One remarkable exploration of light and precision. On view through August 20th.

Today we are featuring works by four figurative artists included in our current exhibition, REMARKABLE PRECISION | Photorealism & Beyond.

Bernardo Torrens is a self-taught painter primarily known for his monochromatic nudes. Torrens infuses temperature into his black-and-white paintings to create the feeling of color within his gray palette.

Johannes Müller-Franken is perhaps one of Photorealism’s most cinematic painters. His compositions are imaginary orchestrations, which he painstakingly recreates from scratch; clothing is created, models are carefully chosen and all of the accoutrement for the scene is carefully set for his photoshoots.

Andrew Valko is a well-known Canadian Realist whose paintings explore the psychological tension caused by observation. Layered with open-ended ambiguity, his compositions subtly weave narratives that imply that there is much more than meets the eye.

Hilo Chen is a first-generation photorealist best known for his bold, large-scale paintings of the female form—sunbathers, poolside figures, and stylized nudes rendered in meticulous detail. Using techniques such as airbrush and flat-paint application to eliminate brushstrokes, he achieves luminous, photographic clarity that emphasizes surfaces, skin textures and the interplay of light and shadow.

This exhibition is on display through August 20th. A must see!
