The Monday Mansion Tour!
These curtains may not be original to Kilmer Mansion, but their story is…
The elegant draperies in the dining room were custom made as replicas of the originals that once framed these windows when the mansion was built in 1898.
Dining rooms were designed to impress. Rich fabrics, dramatic colors, and decorative trim helped create an atmosphere of sophistication for family dinners and formal entertaining. Every detail was carefully chosen - from the woodwork and wallpaper to the window treatments.
The deep green fabric and gold fringe also bring to mind the colors associated with the Kilmer family. Willis Sharpe Kilmer’s famous racing silks featured green and orange - a color combination that became well known throughout the horse racing world through legendary Thoroughbreds such as Exterminator and Sun Briar.
Historic preservation isn’t just about saving what’s original. Sometimes it’s about thoughtfully recreating what has been lost so future generations can experience the beauty and character of a historic home.
