It is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of Sofi, the thirteen-year-old Amur tiger. Following a recent and rapid decline in her health, our dedicated Animal Care and Veterinary teams made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize Sofi.

Over the past several weeks, Sofi’s Animal Care Team observed changes in her behavior, with increased lethargy and inappetence serving as the first indications of a decline in her health. In response, the team immediately began providing round-the-clock supportive care and conducting diagnostic testing. Unfortunately, Sofi’s condition declined rapidly, and at this time, an official diagnosis for the cause of her health decline is not yet available.

Sofi and her sister Jasmine were born on November 4, 2012, at a facility in Florida before arriving at ZooMontana in May of 2014 at just over one year old. Sofi was deeply cherished by the members of her Care Team and by all who had the opportunity to spend time with her. She will be remembered for her love of rolling in clove, her playful habit of turning evening shifts indoors into a game, and her signature chuffs, which her Care Team often described as one of the best sounds in the world. Sofi leaves behind her sister, Jasmine, who will now remain ZooMontana’s only Amur tiger.

So many birthdays this week and last! Here is a look at just a few of the celebrations🎉

Chickens Nugget and Dixie turned 7, while the Boer goat brothers turned 5 today! On the other side of the Zoo, Sichuan takin Kahn & Griff celebrated their 11th and 10th birthday. There are still many more birthdays to come this spring season, so be on the lookout for celebrations during your next trip to the Zoo!🤩
