Hello Bigfork - There is a large group of people searching for the girl who went missing. They will be walking through town searching. If you want to help, check in at the Fire Hall!

We’ll be talking about hiring someone to do the snow removal and ice care this year at our next City Council meeting. The meeting is at 5:30 Tuesday, December 19th at Bigfork City Hall. If you’re interested, come to the meeting!

A HUGE Thank You to the few people who helped for an hour and twenty minutes in the blustery wind to clear the skating rink!

I know the ice isn’t great, I’ll try to flood it Wednesday evening after it warms up. It wouldn’t work tonight because of the wind, and won’t work the next few days because it’ll be too cold to skim coat it.

The rink is ready to be used… sort of 😂.

The inconsisten weather over the last couple weeks made me rush to try and get it done for Christmas, then the weather this week made it difficult. Most of the ice is in great condition, but there are a few spots I expect it to get chippy when people start skating. I will try to fix any major issues and give it a fresh coat after January 8th.

Have fun - be safe!

I hope to have the rink ready to go by next week! If you’re interested in helping over Christmas break and first week of January I’m going to be unable to work on it during those weeks. I will be working on flooding it this week and can show someone how to do it.

To whoever tried to help by shoveling a little bit this week/end: I greatly appreciate the effort to help! In the end, it did cause more work. If the sign is up that says “Please stay off the ice” please shoot me a message through this page and check if it’s needed. In this case, I was using the inch or so of snow as a help to get the thickness of the ice up, so I had to go knock down the ridges that were left. Not too big a deal, though, and thanks for making the effort!

Thanks to a local donor for the new nets! Anybody who tried to move the old nets around, or shoot pucks at really bad one, knew we needed them. These should last us quite a while! (And thanks to hockeyshot.com for the good deal on them) Added in a few more pics for you to enjoy from last Saturday and the amazing frost covered trees.

A clean coat on the ice rink tonight. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped clear the snow!

Hey everybody! I’m looking to fix major divots and give the ice a nice clean finish this evening, but there are piles of snow around the boards. I will be at the rink around 3:00 this afternoon (New Year’s Day, 2021) to work on it and would appreciate your help. If I am there by myself I will work on the divots and wait to flood it until next week.

It is posted at the rink to please remove the snow from the boards immediately, as they harden when they sit and become extremely difficult to remove. Unfortunately, I don’t have time to commit to both clearing and flooding the rink as the season continues and would appreciate your help when it needs clearing.

The day you’ve been waiting for is finally here! It’s not perfect ice yet, but it will skate-able as of dark tonight (Wed. Dec. 16th).

The ice is thin on the south end where it’s dark, and with new ice I wouldn’t skate super hard at first just in case you find a weak spot with your skate.

Please remember if it snows DO NOT leave piled snow along the boards. It is extremely difficult to remove if left to sit and set up. And please don’t leave shovels on the ice, they get stuck.

Happy skating!
