These postcard deliveries by Andrew Rosas have been a moment.
I have to begin with my trees. Andrew sent this postcard (framed) last month and his painting was so familiar to me but his words more so. Yes on all accounts, our Eucalyptus are not native, they were brought to California to block the wind and they are prolific up north. They dance in the air, that is how I see my great giants. Over the years I’ve also learned they ignite in wildfires. That can only mean their demise and recently I have also wondered when I might not be able to see My California as I do now. I am grateful that artists like Andrew appreciate that as they put paint to canvas, they are preserving our past in such a beautiful way and I am grateful.
There’s more. Andrew writes each time about the practice of sending and receiving mail. Oh my the receiving. Opening the envelope, unfolding the letter wondering what he has painted this month and then the read! All of it, I love it.
It’s a moment, a pause to view what an artist sees and then I get to reflect on what that means to me. Art connects in this way, we all know that.
This sentiment could not be better said than with Andrew’s chosen quote (yes you get a quote with each letter!), and this one for my tree letter!
“A landscape painting is essentially emotional in origin. It exists as a record of an effect in nature whose splendour has moved a human heart” Walter J. Phillips
Had to share, yes I would suggest joining the moment...Taraig
