Bottom of the River Sound Music publishing & audio mastering services located in southern Maine.

At the river's edge you'll find a basement by-the-river audio engineering facility... we provide services for both local and international recording artists, producers, and friends. Complimented by just the right equipment and a few good men; We've done projects from Stephen King's graphic audio novels to co-engineering with Abbey Road Studios in London. We’re here for the CD’s that never leave a

car stereo, the songs that stay on repeat on your Spotify playlist. We seek artists that are like-minded and open-eared... Our immersion in the craft and virtually silent audio production center that can help you engineer, produce or master your project... We're here, not to embellish your sound but, to let you and the microphone find common ground.

The music industry is at a crossroads. 🎯

As record producers, or even glorified digital archivists, we're witnessing an unprecedented wave of AI startups that change how our content gets consumed, scraped, and repurposed.

Well, no worries -- we opted out! 👊

All streaming content on music platforms are still in play and we have opted-out of AI-training for all platforms.

We began the new "digital detox" initiative a few years ago, to continue providing new music to our listeners while maintaining a minimalist digital footprint. You may have noticed a new website with the absence of our Live In-Studio Music Video catalog, that's because it's now archived offline. All artist artwork... offline. Promotional content and interviews -- deleted.

This is not about being anti-technology; it's about being pro-artist protection. 🛡 And sometimes protecting the future means stepping back from the present.

The 12 years of production work under our belts represents more than just music -- it's the digital DNA of talented creators who trusted us with their art. In this new landscape where AI acquisitions happen weekly, we believe record labels have a duty to be digital guardians, not just content distributors.

For the foreseeable future, or possibly until better artist protections and AI regulations are implemented, all that mentioned above will remain offline. If you were a past artist and would like a copy sent, you know who to call!

Until then... keep making music, Maine! 🤘

Feeling incredibly honored for the chance to serve as stage tech for Kamala's rally in NH last week. As an entertainment gigworker it's an incredible feat to show support for our country however we can and when we need it the most! 😎 🇺🇸

Borderlines for the win 3-2!

Congrats to Borderlines as they overcame extremely difficult bracket matchups. Many of these matchups finished with a score of 3-2.
So what's next? Well, I think it's only fitting that we reward these finalists with some sort of live show, right? Time for me to hit the pavement and try to make that happen.
Thanks to all 32 artists for allowing themselves and their recordings to be put under a daily microscope and taking criticism along with praise.
Special Thanks to editor and all-around awesome guy Jon Hachey, writer Thomas Hiscock, and alternate judge Dan Sonenberg for their thoughtful, careful listens and interest. And how awesome was not-so-secret celebrity judge Sam Pfeifle? Getting to see the inner workings of (for our money) the best writer in Maine was fascinating and rewarding. The daily commitment to listening and writing from these folks was so valuable to everyone.
Did we accomplish anything? There was a goal to bring unity, positivity and support across musical genres from Maine. Seeing artists interact in the comments and being supportive was awesome. Seeing talks of collaborations, and sharing bills and venues? Priceless. Mission accomplished.
Will we do this again? We’ll see. Ask us in December. There should be a wider variety of judges. Maybe we can get a louder voice from women, (only 33% of the artistic field), along with the country, hip hop and rap genres to level out the playing field a bit. It would be nice if WBLM saw the action and took it on air. If not, WMPG?
What's next for the MNM page? We'll keep going with the weekly new release report for sure, along with scattered and brief reviews with possible guest writers. We will be doing fun CD giveaways in partnership with Crooked Cove in the hopes of jumpstarting CD and vinyl sales. We are thinking about doing a local music interview podcast type thing starting this summer. We'll be sharing the music video of the week, and as always we will be popping up at live shows, volunteering at festivals and yelling a lot.
Why are we doing all this? Not sure. But it sure is a fun, rewarding hobby. So, as long as there are new, exciting releases to get behind and a supportive scene, we'll be around. Thanks!

This album is 10 years in the making. It’s equal parts existential dread and longing for love. The past, swirling in a beer can, meets the future unknown and increasingly unlikely. Yet, we keep pretending.

Our record “Keep Pretending” will be out this summer on Hey Pizza Records (LP), Mom’s Basement Records (CD), and Memorable But Not Honorable Records (Cassette).

It was recorded here in Maine by our old friend Ben Anderson, with the drums tracked at Bottom of the River Sound. It was mixed by Wyatt Funderburk at Nebulon II & mastered by Mystery Room Mastering.

Lastly, the incredible artwork was done by Jon Lewis of The Dopamines fame.

We’re excited to share more with everyone. Album pre-order details and release date coming soon!
