The John Hale House (built 1694) at 39 Hale St. in Beverly was the home of Rev. John Hale, a key figure in the 1692 Salem Witch Trials. Initially a leading prosecutor, Hale changed his mind after his own wife was accused.
Rev. Hale to his second wife Sarah Noyes:
Hey Sarah, do you have to wear that pointed hat while you sweep the front steps. The neighbors are starting to talk.
