Today is and while I don't love that we need to have one, I am taking the opportunity to celebrate the women in my life. Starting with my mother. She grew up in Georgia in the 1940's and married young, had 3 children by the time she was 18 years old, and fought like hell all her life. My father was her second husband and when she left him, to finally pursue her own dreams, I felt like she'd left me too. Writing about her in my one woman show DISCOVERED I put myself in her shoes and I gained a level of forgiveness by understanding her position in the world--woman to woman. Then I performed an excerpt of my show for SHE RECOVERS in Los Angeles for 600 women. They felt me. They heard me. And again, I was healed even more deeply. This is what international women's day is about for me. Unity. We are, always have been, and always will be Let's lift each other up, even when we have differences. Even when we have been hurt by each other. Reach out to each other and heal those wounds. We need each other, today and every day.
