Midterm Elections force Speaker of the House Nanci Pelosi to step down from her leadership post. A bit of Sat morning political trivia for you…Elected to Congress in 1987, my father was her opponent in the special election following current Congresswoman Sala Burton’s death, who herself was elected during a special election following her husband Congressman Phil Burton’s passing. (Incidentally, my first Nintendo was a Christmas present given to me by Phil when I was 11 accompanied by 10 different games of which Pitfall would become my fave, oh happy days). On another note, Supervisor Carol Ruth Silver, who had helped me raise $15,000 for my School of the Arts high school vocal jazz ensemble to be able to compete in LA’s The Young Americans, ridiculed front-runner Nancy Pelosi's Washington connections by paraphrasing Shakespeare. She said that Pelosi boasts, “I can call the creatures from the deep." But Silver wanted to know, “Yes Nanci, but will they come”? I had always laughed at that back then, but looking back, I think we all know the answer to that question. Indeed they came, why, they arrived before she ever even made the announcement to run lol. Oh how I miss that beautiful city…

This year marks the 40th anniversary of one of my favorite childhood films, “ET”. Henry Thomas (who played Elliot) and I had just finished an enormous Greek Xmas holiday dinner in New York City and were talking about Tryptophan, the ingredient in turkey that makes us so sleepy, comparing it to how we were feeling at that very moment and if you notice what he’s holding, (which is so surreal to see, having been quite some time that it’s been outlawed in restaurants & bars), he had just lit up to help wake him up from the food coma we’d fallen into. The maitre’d who was a friend, took this pic of us and plied us with desserts so incredible that afterwards, he had to call us a taxi before we both passed out in his restaurant. We languished very sleepily in the back of the cab on our way back to our respective hotels. I can officially attest to the “romanticism” one would speak of and feel back then in a genuine NYC taxicab. The rest of the nite I was, as Eliza Doolittle would sing, (at barely 21) so giddy, “I could have danced all nite”…

15 years ago today, on July 7, 2007, Jeff Conaway (Kenickie in “Grease”) asked me to marry him. He was sitting in his favorite new, big, black velvet oversized lounge chair from Z Gallerie in our living room and we were writing a new song for our 2nd album. He put down the acoustic and outstretched his arms toward me. I leaped forward to lay across the chair in his lap still holding my lyric notebook and at the same time applauding the last melody he had just written on “Lucy” his acoustic guitar. He then casually said, “So…if you’re not doing anything too important…would you like to marry me?” I was taken aback, speechless, and smiled a big smile, recalling in my head the day my dad pulled my mom and a 9 year old little Vikki from the movie theatre where he took us to see “Grease”, stating that the film was too risque’ for a 9 year old and that I’d have to wait to watch when I turned 16. I was heartbroken at the very thought of having to wait 7 years to see Kenickie again, the boy I had developed a first crush on and had fallen so hard for. I wrote in my notebook “Yes” and drew a heart with an arrow through the name of the duo we now were known as, “Vikki & Kenickie”, since releasing our first album on Itunes 5 months prior. Then, the look on his face went from happy to absolutely priceless as I put my left hand out and asked casually “Where’s the ring?” Please follow my new IG page VikkiandKenickie #70’shearthrob

I hope everyone had a blessed Mother’s Day! Took mom to one of our favorite fish houses, Lure. They never fail to deliver the freshest seafood, beautiful ambience, amazing servers & deliciously strong cocktails :) The clam chowder is, in my opinion, the best, not just in town but in the world! And I come from Frisco Bay where the walk away crab & chowder are second to none at Fisherman’s Wharf! Speaking of SF, the 2nd pic of mom & I wrapped in our “San Francisco weather” coats, I have to say it just hit me, I think I know now where my love 4 exotic cocktails and hanging at the bar comes from. The pic of me at 3, just jogged a memory...of me climbing up a step stool and transferring to one of the sleek black bar chairs, to sit & stare, frequently I might add, fascinated by all the pretty bottles. Especially the ones in the hidden cabinet underneath the bar :) Don’t worry, dad didn’t let me have my first Martini sip until I was a little taller, age 6 to be exact. Honestly, I think I only ate the olives and probably threw the sip over my shoulder...wait, memory jogged again...threw it in the plant! At the bottom of the tall plant in the large pot at the end of the bar! Wow, how a picture can bring back certain memories to the surface you never even remembered existed!
On another note, every year I end up getting a deeply intense, get ready for the tears, heartfelt card with page after page of my novel style writing, which only seems to ruin her makeup before we’ve even left the house so when I saw this card (⬆️swipe to the left◀️) grabbed it. Addressing never ending rides to & from school, practice, including vocal, dance, opera, modeling, clarinet, competitions, pageants, auditions, performances & can’t forget friend’s homes & the mall now! Was funny, to the point and would guarantee a no makeup mess before dinner. She’d be thrilled. And thrilled she was. Not so much about the card, but more about the collectible silver dollar with her favorite President on it that I slipped in lol. Happy Mum’s Day mom, thank you for being extraordinary. ♥️♥️♥️ Back to the tearjerkers next year. Tell me about your mum’s day!

THIS JUST IN: The Secretary of State just now verified enough signatures to ensure Governor Newsom’s Recall election. 1.6 mil signatures. Was browsing through magazines at the airport and who’s gracing the cover of Los Angeles Magazine but Governor Gavin Newsom. Blowing bubblegum into an enormous pink bubble while semi smirking at me. I was shocked that at times such as these he would be ok with being portrayed in such a nonchalant light, not having a care in the world while blowing bubbles. SWIPE TO THE RIGHT FOR THE COVER PIC. I had to read into what was going on so I bought it. Scanned for the article and ended up on the editor’s page disclosing that in fact, who is on the cover, ISN’T the controversial Governor, but a model they picked from the streets. WHAT???!!!! Had to do a double take. That’s pretty daring considering the much publicized recall going on. What’s crazy is I’ve known him since we were in our 20’s, hence the beehive hair and his name tag, firmly pressed into his Gucci jacket, on the board of Supervisors yet still unknown to our beloved hometown. So if I was fooled, what about all the other people busy at the check out stands and all they see is his bubble gum covered lips ...I would think they would go away with the very same thoughts I had. Discussing it with my mom, I voiced that he could sue the magazine but then I was quickly silenced as she reminded me about a law suit I had against the tabloids back in 2011 when unbeknownst to me, I was on the cover of those disreputable supermarket trash rags doing what they do best, telling falsehoods and my lawyer had to drop the case as I was ruled a “public figure”. So It hit me just how truly brutal this was....creative and maybe even genius... but brutal. Talk about defamation of character. This one takes the cake. Thoughts? Anyone? Oh and it’s still on the stands and it’s the March cover...hmmm. 3rd pic is a weathered newspaper pic of the same evening w/ Mayor Willie Brown in attendance

RIP Kelly Preston, always lovely, always gracious. I loved you in “Run” you always had me laughing. Gone way too soon. This Foto was taken in Dec 2004 backstage at the Waldorf. Jeff had his manager running wild all over NY trying to find black tie slacks as this was a black tie event tribute for John and Jeff was presenting onstage but somehow his jacket and shirt arrived minus the pants so an hour before we had to leave our hotel room to go downstairs to the ballroom, I said Babe what would Kenickie do in this situation? And he smiled and said F*** It! I’m Kenickie I’ll go on stage as Kenickie would. In my black jeans with rolled up cuffs. And he did just that. Jeff made his own rules. I’ll have to find that picture....
