“Kids can play anywhere and they’re unpredictable, even if they’re generally well behaved. From a design perspective, this makes the playground a funny space.”

This feasibility study for a shell and core commercial development proposes a steel-framed metal deck structure with a maximized 10,000 square feet of buildable space. Located on Seward Street, which historically was known as one of Hollywood’s major “working” streets, the structure is one of many large buildings in the area that are currently occupied by production offices and studios.

To open up the space and let light into the back side of the building, the designers placed a courtyard and rain garden on the second floor. A mix of tandem and stacked parking on the first floor help to maximize parking space for commercial use in the high traffic neighborhood.

Our design for Zagros Airlines was inspired by the eagle that is indigenous to the Zagros mountains, which we illustrated as a dynamic, Z-shaped logo for use on company material and the airplane exterior.

Brick doesn’t have to be boring or traditional. This textured brick wall on the Jamaica Plain Library addition with Utile Architecture & Planning used a Flemish bond pattern, which gave the building addition its own unique identity while referencing the library addition’s historic context and original brick building. Simplicity at its finest!
